Quick Chassis question!
Discussion
Hiya,
I was looking at a winter rebuild project (ex race car) with a spaceframe chassis. The chassis has been re-powder coated but apparently all the old rivit holes(for ali-panelling) have been welded up and ground down prior to the powdercoating.
Is this normal practice when restoring old race cars?
...because it looks a great new chassis and good foundation for a winterrebuild project. I dont think it has been in a crash either because the clams/bodywork looks in tired, cracked condition and not something that has been repaired.
SO apart from the rivit thing I like it... any advice?

Sounds like someone has thought it thru'.
We always tig weld up previous rivet holes, otherwise after 5 winter rebuilds you are driving a swiss cheese.
V8 is right about drilling thru' a weld. it is a drill buster. If there are witness marks, highlight these areas to stay away from..!
What car is it ?

Here she is
So far it has been about inventory and sorting out all the boxes of dusty bits. The FT200 gearbox is away getting looked at and reports so far are good. I will also be replacing all the nuts and bolts with fresh ones along with rosejoints and bearings.
Anybody know where to go to get three-piece rims refurbed, painted and rebolted for old race cars?
