Did a search but couldn't believe I couldn't find any mention of this.

www.liveforspeed.net

It's a realistic race simulator project that actually happens to be really good, and great fun too. No annoying bugs or unpolishedness like some of these things...

My housemate bought it, I was semi interested but didn't care that much, until I tried the demo. I was very impressed. The network play is particularly good, allowing you to change cars etc in the middle of a game. There are FWD, RWD and 4WD cars which feel very realistic. They're basically copies of real cars, so there's an impreza, a 911, a hot hatch, an astra coupe turbo (really), caterham and more. You can also set up your car quite anally, including changing the power split on 4WD which is revealing.

It's got training modes with slaloms, figure of 8s, accelerating/braking, test corners etc, where you have to beat certain times just like in Gran Turismo.

There's also a mod you can download that saves a 'ghost' of your best lap, to race against.

The whole game is fun for non-super-geeks as well, which is a huge bonus. The demo has network/internet play so you can get the most out of just the demo. A full license unlocks all the cars and tracks and is £24. For that you get a lifetime-ish membership including future updates etc. I just bought a license, which you get instantly, no waiting around.

The only oddness is, at first, the oversteer feels weird. I realised its because the cars have the full amount of steering lock, but my steering wheel only goes 3/4 of a turn left to right, which is magnified the more extreme your turn, which makes oversteer feel different compared to GTL etc.

I've been playing this for some time - its a damn good simulation. Simulation being the key word - it can get quite technical with the setups, but you can always swap and download other peoples setups if you are not into that kind of thing.

Its got a decent damage model on it also so if you take a clip during the race you'll either have to pit and get it sorted or battle on.

I love it personally - its a proper fix when you crave some good racing Here is a poor attempt at a PH Skin last year for LFS :

Only 1 reply to the thread!??

shout PHers! if you're into car games, click this link! www.liveforspeed.net/?page=downloads&which=full

It's only 150MB, demo and full version are the same installer.

I spent last night making the skyline/impreza thing front, four, then rear wheel drive to see how differently they handle. Gonna try it on the rallycross circuit next.

It's 24 for 'S2'. If you've only got S1 then i'm not sure what's different - loads more cars and tracks i think. Might be generally a more advanced engine etc? You can upgrade 1-2.
