I've got a 1GB SD card I got from eBay a few months back, but the 'secure digital' seems a bit inaccurate as every time I take a set of shots with my camera there is either a System Error, and I can't view my photos on the computer or on the camera unless I stick the card in my card reader and run data recovery software.
Today I got a different message, card cannot be used - or something to that effect. When I checked in My Computer the card was showing as RAW format and when I tried to double click into it, I was told the card isn't formatted.

banghead Whyyyy..!! I've got another 128MB card (thank God I kept it) and this works fine, i've never had any problems.

I thought maybe the card was a fake but it seems to hold a reasonable amount of data and it has always up to yet been recoverable eventually.

Hope this was the right place to post!
Dave.

Have you tried formatting it in your camera rather than using the PC?

I've never had this problem - I frequently buy and upgrade my SD's, so sadly it may be your card?!

I did think that.. not much I can do then?
It did come in it's new retail SanDisk box, maybe if I give them a ring they might be able to replace it?

Dave.

Dave, just a thought, do you think you may have touched the contacts on the card, if so give them a rub with a pencil rubber as sometimes this can cause a bad contact and so gives errors. (thats rub the contacts not your fingers)

I think you must have a faulty SD card. I have been using SD cards for some time now on my PDA, Camera and laptop. I've tried just anout every permutation of formating reading, writing etc and have never had a problem.
The only other thing I would suggest (although a long shot) is try using scandisk from the PC on the card.
It could be that part of the memory array inside the card is faulty from maufacture, and scandisk may be a ble to 'isolate' this section. However the alternative is just ask for a replacement/refund.

Some pretty scratchchinscratchchinscratchchinscratchchin ideas there.. Scndisk is one I never thought of that may be hopeful..

Will give it a try

Rubber on the contacts Kev? hehe That's certainly a new one for me.

I will give them a ring if all fails.

Thanks!

So cameras do not support large sized cards, have you checked your manual ?

I had a Viking 512mb SD card go bananas on me once. Although it was in a Palm PDA rather than a camera.
I sent it back to the internet site I bought it from and they swapped it straight away.
