I've been looking to get some business cards printed to promote my photography, to hand out to interested people, anything to make me look less like a dubious character / stalker /
I have been following the exploits of FD's flickr toys who among the different ways of presenting flickr photos, he has also working on business cards, but they haven't surfaced yet. Then somebody posted the url of moo.com who have just launched a range of double sided 'mini cards' based on your flickr photos. Note: this freebie is for Pro users only.
The front is a full colour photo, cropped to around half height and the back has room for five lines of text, your flickr buddy icon (optional) and the flickr logo. Setting up your free cards is easy enough, you're given control of the crop and it seems there is UK branch of moo.com, which should mean fast delivery and cheap postage.
I've ordered my ten free cards and if they're good enough will go for another hundred. Got to be worth a try?
Jon

Erm, I would.....BUT they want to show my private photos......
I don't think so!
I don't think so!

Don't worry!
That is a standard system message that Flickr gives out when you use any of these flickr toys. Basically, you need to grand this 3rd party access to your photo stream so they can log in and allow you to select from your pics. it doesn't change any of the copyright elements (assuming you've chose a scheme in the privacy setup section).
I wouldn't, and didn't worry about it. The same message request happens if you order photo prints, books or DVDs from any of the associated companies.

No, I know where Ali's coming from
I'm not sure how third party wossnames deal with Family and Friends settings.
I assume they DON'T have access to them as it would kind of defeat the object but I actually don't know for sure (not having any photos worth 'hiding'
)

The application/website is asking for authorization from me- will it reveal my Flickr/Yahoo! password?
No. The authorization is a process in which the application you want to use will send you to the Flickr.com website to ask for permission. There will be a paragraph that explains that the application wants your permission to change various things in conjunction with your Flickr account. Different applications ask for different levels of permissions depending on what they do. Some types of changes are:
* Showing you your private photos
* Edit and delete photo metadata like tags
* Read and write permissions to your photostream
You are given an option to grant permission, or just continue browsing on Flickr if you choose not to. Your password is not sent to the third party application or website, there is an exchange of information between Flickr and that application that you have granted permission to allow the changes that the application is designed to do. After clicking the blue button, you then return to the third party application to use it. If you ever want to remove permission, you can do so through your Account settings page where there is a link for third party API applications that you have given permissions to.
Would imply that any 3rd party app/website should show what it will allow to be seen when it asks for permission.
I'll have a play in a minute and set some private photos etc.
(Having said that though this card generation thing is an automated thing anyway)

I guess it really depends on what content you're trying to protect and what you think somebody "could" do with it if stolen? For me its just a copyright issue - I work hard at my photography and if anybody gets a bung out of it I want it to be me or a cause/person of my choice.
If I had children or more <cough> specialist photographs uploaded maybe I'd think differently but my assumption is always if I really want to keep something private I'd resist posting it on the web. Anywhere on the web!
I really fancy or ordering one of the photo books from Qoop - a bit narcissistic but good fun.
