Number plate fallen off
Discussion
My number plate was a full size item stuck onto a Crescent undertray / tail tidy with thick (not so) sticky tape and it has fallen off. I was 70 miles from home when this happened, and I rode back feeling vulnerable. When I parked up I could see the sticky goo residue on the bracket and figured if I had got stopped the Police would understand my predicament and let me off.
The goo is still sticky and the bike looks very svelte sans yellow plastic. Tempted to ride it in this state and use the excuse that the reg plate has just fallen off. What is my likely fine / points for doing so?
I have a valid tax disk on the bike.

You might get away with it whilst you have clean sticky goo (oh-er!), but I can't imagine that would last long. Smart plod will probably notice you around if you are a local somewhere other than a large inner city.
I'd heard that under the current law, no number plate was a £30 fine and no points. Might be worth doing a search on SP&L? Tempting though it is, probably not the best way forward
