Has anyone chipped their E46 330? If so what were the results?

I'm considering it, but am dubious about claimed power gains.....

It would need to be remapped, not chipped. The power gains would vary on how aggressive a map was used.

Ok, mines not a 330i, but I had my 3.5 V8 chipped. Not an aggressive map but tuned to my engine with data collection etc. Conservatively they say 10% and thats probably fair. So if you have the 231BHP version then anything between 10-20BHP is probably reasonable. But, best thing to do is get it rolling-road tested to start with and see if its OK before the chip.

Most BMW engines do have reasonable gains with a re-map. BUT, anything more than 10% is pushing them and it is likely that its a claim too far or the map is far too aggressive. Not saying that more than this is not possible, but they are fairly high tune to start with with reasonable components (airbox, cams etc). So a quick and simple power gain, but more than this will mean significant engine work.....

a turbo engine would have the biggest gain particularly a diesel, i can only say i once remapped a 911 and to be honest it was a waste of money, up to 10% can't be noticed imho.

Try West Tuning- they do a rolling road test before, then remap. They can also fit an air filter and exhaust which all combined give good gains. The VANOS system can be reprofiled, giving better results than you might expect from an NA engine.

I had a spin in a 330 that had been done by West and it was most impressive- made my standard 330 feel very asthmatic, and it sounded great too without being loud. I was impressed enough to book my car in for the works, but then bought an Alpina instead...

Give Ray West a call, he'll talk you through the options and how it works.
