Hi,

Anyone know what this might be?

My 306 (1.4 petrol, don't laugh ) temp gauge has suddenly started reading high (100-110), but the engine is O.K ( coolant level fine, fans work with ac on, but not coming on with 'indicated' 100+ degrees). To add to the strangeness, if I put the heater fan on the temp jumps by 10 degrees!

Is this a common problem, should I be worried? It looks like an electrical glitch, but I need some reassurance, until I can get it to the dealer.

Any help greatly appreciated

Are the radiator cooling fans cutting in and out while car is stationary, like at the lights?
If theyre working(dont mean when ya switch a/c on) then id say its an electrial fault.
Usually the temperature sender, but could easily be the gauge....funny that its jumping when you switch other things on and off...could be a regulator fault...
Hope this helps.

Cheers Deltaf,

Fans don't seem to come on when stationary (don't think temp is high enough @ 10 degrees ambient). Switch off engine and leave for 30 mins, and it drops to 60-70.
I get the feeling it is electrical on the gauge side, as it moves (noticably!) when you switch on the heater fan.

I will get it checked soon, but I can't for a few days (wife has the car and I'm not around).
