I'm 34, single, living in my own flat in SW London - had a bit of an epiphany recently when I realised how much time I've been spending worrying about taking my next step up the property ladder; have decided that in the spring, I'm going to buy myself a secondhand Tuscan in the £18K - £22K area, probably a decent 2002 for that money. Can't really afford it and the bike will have to go, but I can't remember the last time I've done anything purely outrageous and enjoyable just for myself.

Already had an insurance quote from A-Plan - based on 5000 miles a year, off-street parking in SW London, and without any no-claims, I though £1100 fully comp was pretty good.

So it's going to be black, silver or titanium grey.

Roll on 2007.

Edited to add: Mods - please feel free to correct my typo in the subject line.

Firstly, good choice. I picked up my first TVR about 2 weeks ago and it's awesome! Secondly, re your insurance quote; I am 32, live in SW London, do 10k miles / year, car parked on street at night, insured for 24k and I pay £789 through APlan. I have a T350, not sure it would make THAT much difference.

Good luck.

I lived in SW8. Tuscan was in off-street parking communal garage. I was 31, had 6 yrs NCB, but 3pts on license.
£850 with Direct line fully comp, with g/f as extra driver.

Try Privelige insurance. They were miles cheaper than anyone else for my Tuscan.

Are you secretly Joanna Lumley?

Thanks for the tip - I'll give them a try.

Duncan- great newsre intended purchase. By way of comparison - 33yrs, 9 yrs NCB, 2003 Tuscan-on street, SW14/TW10, £1k with A Plan on unlimited mileage. Also worth trying - A Manning and Competition Car Insurance. Tracker, Immobiliser fitted & recommended.

Ginga,

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's given up 2 wheels in order to climb the 4 wheel ladder...it was a bit sad but I've not missed it really.

Good luck with car purchase!

I'm privileged also, they were by far the cheapest and very easy to deal with. Because the Convertible was not on their list at the time I phoned up to confirm details and it got even cheaper! They were very helpful and friendly. Recommended....and I'm not Joanna Lumley either.....lovely lady!

I have a Tuscan & live in Essex with a 3000 mile limted mileage policy with ClassicLine
Renewal in April this year was £560 without any no claims as this is insured as a second car.
However you don't build up any no claims on a polcy like this but you can extend the mileage with a phone call if you find that your clocking up the miles. driving

So why have I only ever been able to get quotes of about £1500 up until this year (now £1000)????

SW8
A decade's no claims
35 years old
18 years' accident free driving

Why why why?

Incidentally, GingerNinja, my Tuscan's for sale now and might cost you so little you could keep your bike! A year older than you're looking for but with '03 engine rebuild, Nitrons, new clutch, brakes etc...

That still seems pricey, considering I'm a year younger than you and don't have any no claims....try A Plan or any of the others mentioned above. Oh, my quote was off-street parking too.

As for the Tuscan - well looks tempting, but REALLY can't afford it until March/April next year.....

I think postcode is the killer. I'm 34, 10 yr's NCB, postcode W5, garaged, limited mileage to 5000 miles. With Classicline it's just over £800, all others ie priviledge, Tescos etc just over £1000.

Correct - it is a large influence. Last yr, I moved some 800 yrds from TW10 to SW14 and my insurance went up £450!! Risk classification of the respective areas were poles apart although for the life of me I could not understand why. This increase seemed also to ignore the fact I was moving into a more secure gated area!

I live in SW12...insurance categories below:

A = Low Risk
F = High Risk

SW London SW
1, 3-7, 10, 12-20 . . . . . F *
2, 8-9, 11 . . . . . . . . Refer

W London W
1-2, 5-6, 8-9, 12, 14 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . F *
3-4, 7, 13 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . E *
10-11 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Refer

TW Twickenham
1, 9, 11 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . F *
2-3, 6-8, 10, 13-14 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . E*
4-5, 12, 15-18 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . D*
19-20 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . C

...so presumably a Refer code means it's a higher risk than an F.
