Squeaky Brakes

Hi All,

Quick Question - My Cerb is suffering from seriously loud (like gives you a headache) brake squeal - almost starts straight off from driving the car cold.

Anyone have ideas on (a) what causes it and (b) how to stop it! Please! 8-)

I had the same problem, I put a thin coat of Hermetite instant gasket on the back of the pads its good for about 260 degrees or something like that.

Speak to Levens, aparently they have some pads that are good and dont squeal.

if anyone is interested - just spoke to gatwick TVR and they mendtioned that if you make a leading edge (i.e. chamfeur off the sharp end) of the pad - this stops the squeak

Didnt cure mine!..I tried everything....champfeurin egdes...silcone on the back of the pads...new pads from TVR...de-glazing disc surfaces and still it sounded like a London bus!...Got to the point I hated going out in it!...but I have to agree with MadMark...(although I was the one who told him!)..that Leven have a cure. Its defo to do with a certain brake pad,(kept a bit of a secret with em...) and the set up of them. Cured my squeel and would highly recommend that you give them a call

My rear brakes squeal, almost from cold.

I tried cleaning them up and applying copper ease to the rear but that didn't work. Then a search on here revealed the sealent trick (which explains why the pads were so hard to get out). However this hasn't cured it either.

This company: www.clever-trevor.net/cat.php?catId=1 sells anti squeel shims which I haven't tried yet as my pads seem to have shims attached.

Mine squeak every now and then, but i have just learned to live with it

new (drilled) rear discs needed to get the car through the MOT cured mine -was almost unbearable before that. Didn't want to use the brakes sometimes the squeal was so loud. Now its a dream.

Ah, that puts my mind at rest. Mine aren't intrussive, but under repeated heavy braking the fronts certainly make themselves known.

Mine have always squeaked, when I first got it and after renewing all the pads and discs, it's never been highlighted at service so I guessed it be a TADTS issue, but good to know.

Fit some anti squeal shims between the pad and piston, you can get them from any motor factors, the stick on ones I found didn't work but an old fashioned metal shim ( which addmittedly needed modifying ) worked and is still working a treat
