My Norton anti virus software is expired, but I'm not sure I want to go with Symantec again.

Is Norton the best, or is there a better product out there? (McCaffe, etc)

Thanks

Have downloaded it and run it. Seems to clash with the Roxio easy cd creator software. It appears I have to download the updates from Roxio before I install the antivirus.
But I have to register with Roxio BEFORE I download the updates. rolleyes

Why is nothing ever simple & straight forward these days.

Anyone else know of a decent antivirus software, that is'nt necessarily free?

NOD32 seems to be another one that's high on the list of favorites around here.

Personally I'd get the updates from Roxio (feed them your work address and the bosses name or something) regardless of which software I was going to run. But that's me.

Yep, nod32, not as well known as some but meant to be the best at "not missing" threats.

paid £18 for nod32 for 2 years, it found stuff that avg assured me was clean, I checked that file with other security software and then dumped avg, daily or more updates, no viri so far, some caught on downloads which is nice

Avast anti-virus is free for home use and not a hog - I've been using it for more than a year and been very happy

It's getting worrying, I'm hearing more and more people say AVG isn't picking up everything, perhaps it's time for a change...

Today it picked up a VBScript file I'd written and decided it was a Trojan and it always picks up the (obviously virus free) language files when I install software from one of our partners.

We use Trend Micro PC-cillin here and have foud it to be excellent. It comes with software firewall, wireless network scanning and various other features that are not found at all or are additional cost extras with many of the other packages.

Microsoft use Trend Micro for their hotmail anti-virus scanning now so if it's good enough for probably the biggest email system in the world...

To be fair, although very good (I'm told) AVG is free - I guess you get what you pay for ...

I'm not seeing AntiVir mentioned as much these days. I've been using it for several years and not had any virus issues in that time (although perhaps I did/have but it didn't notice them rolleyes). Has anyone an informed opinion on AntiVir?

Grisoft's free versions of AVG have almost disappeared now, and they've only been available for personal users and charities.

They have a Pro version for commercial use and various server version for e-mail and file scanning all of which cost a few quid.

So you'd think that they'd be on the ball...

I had a virus crash through last night "zphnok.dll" which AVG missed, Mcafee spotted, but won't do anything with. i.e. won't delete, quaranteen or remove. Any tips on what I can do? When I try anything with Mcafee, it just throw a line asking me to check if it's a writable file, (which the virus won't tell me rolleyes), but no other info.

thanks.

Sadly we could go on all day about which virus software is best but NONE of them will pick up every virus. I have run several programs over the years and have never (touch wood) had a virus attack. Most of this is down to careful use of the internet what emails I open. The only real solution is to do the same.
