MOH and I went to look at a replacement for the Astra VXR. As we now have the Boxster we decided the Astra's performance was unecessary and more importantly it gets me out of something I just don't enjoy driving (The torque steer and general handling are not my cup of tea).

We went with the intention of buying a 120D M Sport, but I just didn't like the bouncy ride of the Run Flat Tyres. I also made the mistake of spotting a white 318i M Sport Saloon that they had got on centre stage in the front window. The deal wasn't quite as good as on the 120D but the dealer agreed to what I was looking for if I took the car by next Saturday.

So we take delivery next week of

New Shape 318i M Sport Saloon
Sun Protection Glass
Bluetooth
18" wheels

Go on Mustard you obviously have something to say.

I am trying to find out what they are like with a few miles on them. The car I drove yesterday only have 7 miles on the clock and was by no means a dissapointment.

Any jobs going in this landscape gardening game?

Little prediction.... you'll be changing it for a 325i in a couple of months!

318i is a sensible enough car (if thats what your after), but i think you'll be wanting a little extra wallop

But aren't the 318s supposed to be a purer drive compared to the wider wheels and heavier front ends of the more powerful models?

Well I think part of the decision process was that we had one car with a bit of poke and did we really need 2. The answer was not really. The BMW will put 20K miles a year on it through business use, so I really could do with something that is going to do more than 26 MPG (which is what the Astra does when I get behind the wheel and go cross country or around town).

I think you make an interesting comment DJ because as the car was on trade plates it had to be accompanied. It was the Dealer Principle that came with us and he admitted that bearing in mind he never does test drives, he was suprised at how good it was sitting in the back of the bottom of the range car. The car we drove was an SE with 16" wheels so I am hoping that the Sports Suspension and 18* wheels are not going to make the ride awful in comparison.
