About to take the plunge but I am having seriously difficulty getting a decent quote.

AJ Manning/TVR Car Club - Can't quote/won't quote unless you have 5000 miles experience on a TVR. Catch 22

This seriously p*sses me off, they are suppossed to be TVR car club insurers but will not quote new members.

Sunninghill - 1148.40 including track days with 5000 mile limit (seems the best so far).
Tesco - £1100 without track days (£300 pound markup for Nitron suspension!!!!).
Norwich Union - £2500 (f**ck off)
Admiral - Won't quote with Nitron suspension

Anybody else been through this pain, I wouldn't mind but the original quote with Tesco seemed really good and now I have to pay significantly more. I wish I had not been honest and rang the rotten barstewards up.

Have you tried Peart? They have been insuring my TVR for years and know what they are doing...

I'd say they are OK quotes to be honest, I'm with Sunninghill right now for £1300 pa, although with unlimited mileage and also have the silly quotes too (not yet tipped a £5k quote...). Direct Line would have covered me for £200 less without track days.

A bit annoying that they penalise for suspension mods, as those (especially in TVRs) are more likely to make the car safer and less likely to claim.

Buy one without Nitrons? Suspension is seen as an upgrade, by most insurers, that will increase the risk. Some insurers will decline if you tell them you have added spiders.

If the cerb is your second car, look at my profile, may be able to help. Nitrons no problems, do not load the policy. Also PH discount.
Thanks Moosetvr

AJ Manning insured me last year (1st TVR)rolleyes all they asked was if my ohter car was over 200bhp and my TVRCC membership number. This was 5k miles pa, and with SWMBO. Just renewed with AJ again, 5K pa, + Class 1, Ex £500 for £630.

Perhaps they have changed their criteria this year, but I remember having siimilar problems as you are having, managed to get a cheaper quote via A-plan, but wasn't happy with their underwriter, so stuck with AJ.

PS Elephant will quote me £130 until expiry so I may go with that for the hassle factor.

I've been with Tesco's for three years, but A plan have beat them buy £100.

£529 for me & the old man, letting some old goat drive the car occasionally brings the price down.

Plus a 90 day green card thrown in, that cost me about £50 with Tesco's last year & I rather fancy that trip to Germany, glug glug, what car drink

No extra for having the ohlins on either.

Good old insurance companies, charging you an extra £300 for making the car safer laugh, I'm in the wrong industry

Simon

I was already insured with Bell Direct on my daily driver, and Bell Direct will match your no claims on a 2nd car policy with them.

So I paid about £650 for my first year of cerbera induction

Not sure about the suspension options though

Simon,

Try Tesco's again. When we had nitrons fitted to ours we called them to let them know and they wanted to up our premium. Whoever we spoke to was actually quite a reasonable bloke and when my husband explained to him various factors (I think he mentioned improved handling/ride and difficulty in getting hold of whatever the original shocks were) the guy agreed to add nothing to the premium on the understanding that if we needed to make a claim at a later date the cost of the Nitrons would not be included in any payout that they made.

I hope that makes sense (I may have the detail wrong, but they definitely didn't add anything to our premium). It might be worth you having another try with Tesco as they've always been the cheapest for us until now as we get a better deal with Admiral on a Multi-Car policy.

1st of all, welcome to the silly grin club.

I'm with Privilege, which is the same company as Tesco and Direct Line.
They whacked on a premium for my sports exhaust even though it states on my policy that power is decreased. However, they didn't charge any extra when i told em about the Protechs I have fitted.

BTW, you've bought the absolute best colour for a Cerbera.... But you could have had mine - a 4.5, it's in the classifieds.

What colour is your interior?

Hi Budaholic

Yes I saw that yours was on sale and considered it,it's a nice car but was looking for a part-ex.

For the moment I can go until the end of the year with my current insurer elephant for £130, if I do re-quote for Tesco I will bear the advice in mind.

I may well decide to get another car to insure in my name for the girlfriend (she is Mexican and has no UK driving licence at the moment) as I got a really good quote as a second car.

How do you prove that you've driven a TVR for at least a year/5000 Miles?

Good point, don't want to do anything too dodgy though in case I get caught out. Hopefully I shall not need to claim.
