Novice parachutist ends up dangling from plane
An Australian who went on a parachute jump to cure his fear of flying ended up dangling upside down from the plane.
The incident happened when the harness strap snagged on the steps of the Cessna as novice Chris Morris jumped in tandem with instructor Mark Poulter.
The two men, who were strapped together, found themselves rotating around the undercarriage, looking back up at the pilot, reports the South China Morning Post.
Pilot Lisa Strathern, 23, tried using a large stick to release the strap and then turned sharply to try and dislodge the pair but without success.
Mr Poulter asked the pilot to cut them free with the knife that was always carried in the cockpit.
Ms Strathern found the knife, loosened her seat belt, kept the plane steady with one hand and leaned out of the aircraft with the other as she sawed away at the strap.
She managed to free both men before landing the plane safely in a paddock. "I don't know how she did it," Mr Morris said afterwards.
Mr Morris says he would jump again, despite his near-fatal first effort.
What are the chances of that happening? I'm not sure I would have another go, I'd think someone was trying to tell me something.
