Hi Chaps, my speedo packed up the other day, not in a gradual way, but just stopped working.

I gather from the bible it can be either the sensor, a fuse, or the actual speedo itself. I'm putting my money on it been the sensor (call it a hunch!), but here is my question.

I read in the (TVR) bible that the ECU also reads off the speed sensor (from the Gearbox or diff) as it has to know whether the car is moving or not, and whether it should be idling. So if my sensor is b**gered, could this effect the running of the engine in anyway??

As I drove back from Wales yesterday it's seemed to be starved of fuel up to about 2000rpm then it would kick in as normal. Just wondered if the 2 problems could be related.

Could be... maybe not. Usually the symptoms are idling problems and stalling more than anything like bad running.

Cheers Steve, just to add, it was only doing it when pulling off from stationary. If I slowed down to 1000-2000 rpm then put my foot down, it was OK.

I had the same problem with the sensor on my m.bike at the gearbox.Speedo working intermittently
It had come loose & built up a layer of dirt, cleaned it up & hey presto, might be worth checking first.

Cheers bervie, looks like it's up on the ramps and have a good fish around and clean!
By the way, does anyone know whether the speed sensor would be on the gearbox or on the diff for a Chimaera 4.0 very late '95 model??

Probably on the diff. Look there first.
