Aeromotive LP pumps a real disappointment

I finished all the wiring on my Procharged Can-Am yesterday. I decided to switch on the ignition and test the ECU and run the fuel pumps. Both tanks part-filled with Shell V-Power. I was ready to go. First I disconnected the main high pressure pump so I could prime the system with the low pressure pumps. The noise was unreal! It sounded like someone taking an angle grinder to the chassis. This was the left hand pump. I left it running and checked for leaks. At first all was OK, but then a strong smell of fuel. Switched off. I found that it was the pump itself that was leaking, from a gasket at the base of the pump. Not good! Now for the right hand pump. Even louder than the first but at least no leaks form this one. Now the system was primed, I reconnected the main pump to test this one. The ECU controls this one and it runs it for 6 seconds once the ignition is switched on. So I switched on the ignition and sure enough the ECU did its job and fired the main pump. This sounded OK and gave me fuel pressure on the injection rails.

All three pumps are made by Aeromotive. The main A1000 pump will stay but there is no way I can live with the other two LP pumps. I will replace them with different pumps. They are just too loud!

Good news is that I am on target to test fire the new engine this weekend as long as I get no more problems along the way.

The normal factory LP pumps are V loud as well so good luck finding something quite.

Hi Steve

I ran the car last year with the factory standard Carter pumps and although quite loud these Aeromotive pumps are on a new level of loudness.

I now have on order two Holley HP 125 pumps which use a gerotor design instead of the vane type. These should be a lot quieter, I hope! A hum rather than a grinding noise.
