You can check economy, would be a nice check.
Changing octane really needs a change in timing or compression to optimise it.
Id like to see an extended dyno test of one car on different fuels retuned optimally each time for the fuel. Higher octane fuels actually burn with less engergy than lower octane ones. Its just that the higher octane allows more controllable combustion under higher compression, preventing detonation etc.

So tell me who actually refines Tesco 99? I don't believe they've got their own manufacturing plants, so surely they're just buying in bulk from Shell/BP/Esso/whoever then selling in bulk to the blue rinse masses?
