New child seat belt law
Discussion
Do we all know about the change in the law? I see the taxi drivers are moaning because they may have to provide various child seats depending on the age size and height of the child. To my mind have a few at the base and the driver can pick them up when the customer informs them they have a 2 year old and an 8 year old. Where is the problem? What do you think?

There's no problem, as Taxis are exempt!

Taxis are exempt as are short journeys.

Thanks. i checked it out. Taxis and private hires are exempt provided 3 and over are in the rear wearing adult seat belts. Children under 135cm travelling in the front must be on a booster or child seat. Children under 3 in the rear only but can be un-retstrained. The over a short distance one in an unexpected necessity is bordering on dodgy though. If you have a car seat use it people.
Has anyone actually tried getting a car seat at the moment? We ditched our booster seats about a year ago as we thought the kids were too old. Now my 9 and 11 year olds need booster seats (one of them is only 2cm under the height). The seats cannot be got for love nor money, I even resorted to Mothercare and Halfords (spit... I object to going in there!) with no joy.
I am not forking out £200 on full seats, when all I need is 2 boosters for about 6 months each! (and is it my imagination or have the price of seats suddenly rocketed?)

Oooooh.., that's well drafted. Not!
So, a mum and toddler caught in a downpour cannot legally be given a lift by a neighbour, but they can hire an equally unsafe cab.
Yet another bit of ill-considered needless meddling.

So will rozzers be carrying official height measurement devices?
Will the child under scrutiny have to remove their shoes?
Even in the rain?
Will there be a right of appeal?
Perhaps a remeasurement the following morning when
they'll have grown both naturally, and due to having
8 hours horizontal?
I find it incredible that I've lived so long (41 yrs) given that I wasn't subject to all this state interference
Are modern children really so pathetic

From what I can see its practically unenforceable anyway, or are they going to introduce 'Height Cameras'.
Another load of bollox from our dictators.

I also presume all BiB will now have to carry a Home Office type-approved measuring device.
Will this have to be formally checked at the start and end of each measuring session ?
What about expansion due to changes in ambient temperature ?
etc, etc, etc...

It's not modern children that are pathetic, they're wonderful, it's this 'nanny state' so-called government that's pathetic.

Yes, but they'll have to be officially calibrated - and there'll be an expert witness along from Stanley to tell the courts why that particular tape measure does not ever produce slip error, due to some special software.

Couldn't that be classed as an unexpected necessity?
