Ayup all

When fitting and testing the mod-wise 2 speed fan kit I found that my fans are coming on via the otter switch a bit early, at around the 70 mark. Reading in the bible, some cars were fitted with a heat shield to stop the heat from the exhaust turning on the switch, which I think is happening with mine. The thing is I don't want the engine running too cold. It looks like the sheild has been *removed* from where it was attached to the base of the swirl pot.

Does anybody else have this problem? is it really a problem?

Where would be the best place to get a replacement one? A breakers?

Any advise welcome

Cheers
Rich

Never seen one of these myself. You could probably fabricate one if you were worried about it, but as the switch works by heat on the switchface in the water, due to the SPHC of the water on the inside of the swirlpot I would have thought it would have negated any radiant heat from the engine.

Cheers,
Matt.

Is the heat shield not there to try and keep heat from the fan belt. (just a thought)

I have a heat shield on my car between the N/S forwards manifold section and the air induction pipe, but that is well away from the otter switch.

Woody,

Give David at Mod-wise a call. He is a really helpful guy and would be able to advise you and probably mail the parts out to you ( at a price of course ).

I'm sure it was in the bible where I saw a picture of one, they were fitted to later Chimaeras. Looks like a piece of mild steel plate with a TVR logo pressed on it, shaped to fit around the exhaust header on the N/S.

I've seen these but didn't think they were to shield the otter switch.

Thats the chap, although its not pressed steel its "plastic". The only thing its really shielding is the induction pipe though (which does make sense)

If the otter is cutting things too early, simply disconnect it. I havent had one for 8 years !!Its only included just in case the adjustable stats are wound up to 120 !

I think I will David, and just use the 2 adjustable themostats on the kit...

I'm just wondering if the previous owner put a lower temp otter switch on, if this is something that does exist?
