Strange thing happened yesterday.
Was out having adrive with my lady and we will parked up looking at where to go for lunch!

empty road, was going to show her how fast the car went, 2001 996 C4 Cab anyway.

Lots of revs, dropped the clutch, and......

car was slow off the mark and the clutch pedal came up very slowly, like in slow motion, declutched, and the car seems ok

Is this right???????

I would guess you were putting down too many revs. When you consider the extra strain on the clutch of having the 4WD system I'd advise against these sorts of starts and leave them for the Max Muppet Traffic Light Warriors.

Much better to get the car rolling, clutch fully out and then cane it.

(Personally I use first as a get the car rolling gear, grab second and then start caning it. I have heard too many stories of older cars with "shagged first gears" caused by exactly this type of use)

I am ashamed to admit I did the same thing a few months ago in my C2. Didn't smell good and I spent the next week worrying about having destroyed the clutch and/or transmission.

Thankfully the car seem as healthy as ever, even after a few trackdays in the intervening period. Just goes to show how strong these cars are. I am sure had it been a Ferrari or Lambo, I would have been left stranded by the side of the road waiting for the recovery truck, followed by a call to the building society for a small amendment to the mortgage.

Never again!
