Limited or no connectivity - WTF?
Discussion
I am using a D-Link DWLG710 wireless repeater at work which was a pain to set up, but once it was, it works champion. This little box severely tested my sanity, but I learned a bit about networks and perservered over about 4 months to eventually get it to work.
As soon as I got it working, other people at work thought it was great, but I keep the box locked away when I'm not at work, so they bought themselves one aswell.
It seems that I am now the works "networking expert" and I was given the task of setting their box up aswell. All went well and it was up and running in next to no time. After about a week, their box has started acting up, connecting to the network ok, but giving the message "limited or no connectivity" and they can't access the internet.
My box is still ok and the settings appear to be exactly the same, the only difference being mine runs firmware V1 and theirs is firmware V2. Does anyone have any ideas what's gone wrong with their box and what is "limited or no connectivity"?

Limited or no connectivity means it cannot get an IP address. Is this box just linked straight to the net? Check the dhcp settings. Also, it could be that they have some form of wireless protection on, where you can connect to a network but not actually use it, thus leading to the error you are seeing.
There seems to be a general issue with DHCP connectivity and wireless with some vendors. Have hit snags with Linksys and Intel, but never with Netgear. I know MS have released a post XP SP2 patch but that didn't fix today's problem. If you scour the net the world is rife with this problem but I've not found a definitive answer as yet.
I need to get to the bottom of it as I've just hit another one like this

Ok, slight confession time.... I don't actually have access to the router - that's currently sitting in a house over the road, but I can just about get a signal from my window sill. The repeater simply makes it possible to get the signal over to my desk so I'm not standing in the window looking like a potential jumper.
I can get full connectivity by either standing in the window with the laptop or by using my DLink box in the window. If I switch my DLink off and put the other DLink box on, I still get connected, but with limited connectivity. The box settings are exactly the same.
It's got my head done in, but at least my box works

The dhcp service is running on this strangers wifi router that your jacking then? I think it's likley that the repeater isn't making proper connection back accross the road to the router, or that its just lost its config. I'd give one machine a fixed IP in the same range as the static IP of the repeater, and use that to check the config/status pages on the repeater. Hopefully something will jump out. Failing that, just reset it back to defaults and set it up again from scratch. HTH.
