Anyone else watching this? Flipping one sided reporting if ever I saw it. All about the BiB's using the 'loopholes' to avoid NIPs. But the general gist is that Scameras are good.

The Beeb is so shite mad

But they do claim "work/shout" when pinged und when they are pinged in "course of duty" - lot of paperwork. I gather the ambulance service spend a small fortune on such "admin" ...

We never did find out who got the points when one Force failed to complete that Form "as they did not know who was driving the police car at the time" (was the Met circa 2003 per all the tabloids hehe)

As for bias - Vine had the lawyer defending Idris on his prog yesterday.

Lot of blathering about "killing a child".

Und some bizarre comments about hit und runners getting copped on these cams. How? They hit .. they ran und no one finds them as they are never in a registered car or car which can be traced back to them. ranting

Problem though - as Vine pointed out ..person to whom the car ist registered gets the points - und some of these cars are owned by lease hire companies as invetitably the rep in repmobile who get pinged... rolleyes

The Beed does seem to be a bit of a government / "authority" mouthpiece and / or their journalists are just plain naive.

If the police can't identify the driver but have done their best then they have that getout. If they do identify the driver then s/he just says it was necessary for doing their duty and the case is dropped. I'm surprised Newsnight didn't ask how many photos of police vehicles have been taken and how many resulted in prosecution of any kind. I'm assuming prosecutions were nil.

Of course they can identify the driver. They will know precisely who had which car when.

It's the usual "...Don't do as I do, do as I say...".

Also, yet more evidence the BIB don't regard speed control as a relevent safety measure any more than the millions of drivers with points on their licence.

Why won't the police use loopholes ?

They know as well as we do that speeding kills is a load of rubbish, hence the reason they are poodling about in excess of the speed limit when not on a shout etc...

I assume that in future, the CPS will demand all its costs from the police when they attempt to defend themselves of course.

In the case that was highlighted, they couldn't because no one had signed the log book. the vehicle was a minibus full of plod. It was implied that they all refused to identify the driver.

Well if you've ever met one of their 'bright' young things they use as researchers you'd know why.

A number of the photos were shown but the police refused to release this one. The implication is that actually the driver was identifiable or alternatively some other misdemeanor was going on such as all the officers were mooning the camera.

Interesting that S172 didn't come into play then? I assume the Chief Constable has acquired the points.......................

They only have to show that they've done their best to find the driver.

REALITY CHECK

Pity that isn't the case for the rest of us.

Would you like a visa for our planet?

I'm sorry I must be misunderstanding. I thought that was exactly the case for the rest of us. If we can show we have done our best to find the driver than the case is dismissed isn't it?
