I had a few driving lessons in Ireland before I was 17 but when I finally took to the English roads post my driving test, I became one of the statistics. I crashed big time before I was 18.

As my own sons (I have three) are several years off taking to the roads but even on bicycles they display most of the traits that nearly got me killed. Self belief, no-one will get in my way, I am a skilled driver, to name but a few.

So I am wondering what is on offer to provide young drivers with some tools and insight into the problem.

Any feedback gratefully rec'd?

Thanks

I thought from the title that you were going to mention the Under 17 Car Club. It seems to be exactly what you're looking for. (Despite the name, you should be looking to join this when you're 14.)

The quickest (though not the best) way to learn is to crash through your own stupidity/ignorance as you did and as I also did.

Cycling proficiency test? - Sounds like driving might never be an issue otherwise!
