Sounds stupid but as I have never ridden a bike before I was wondering what i need to wear. I have my CBT this Sunday, all day. I have boots (just bought) gloves I use in my kit car, a frank thomas jacket, again used for the kit car. but removed all the armor. it that ok? Helemet got again for the kit car.

just wondering the level of clothing i need to keep me comfortable and warm on a bike. I usually wear t-shirt and shorts all year round at home, so I am not a cold person.

suggestions? thinking the weather will be the same as this week. but maybe wetter.

I wore pink knickers, fishnet stockings,a lime green boob-tube,polyester mini-skirt and a head scarf, but obviously i had a good sturdy pair of boots on incase i come off(im not stupid!)They just took one look at me and turned me away at the gate and virtually threw the CBT at me,its as if they didn't like my boots??Seriously though, sturdy boots, your jacket etc should be ok,they don't exactly come down on you like a ton of bricks if they don't like what you are wearing, what you have is fine, you can get around to getting better gear(leathers, trousers with knee protection etc)later, they will talk you through sensible gear during the CBT(well they did with us),good luck with your test!

i had the same gear as you...

But add thermal undertrousers, jeans then waterproof trousers over the top. i think for CBT and DAS speeds you'll be ok in jeans - will be mostly around town. We did go on a dual carriageway but i think that was only because it was right next to the training school, not because they try to take you on one.

I did my training in february and it kept me warm... Several thin layers are better under the jacket and trousers than one thick layer as it traps the air and insulates you.

yes

You'll be frezzing on a bike if it's under 16 degrees out. Thicker gloves are useful, but you lose a lot of feel in the thermal jobs.

Right I got the waterproof trousers as well as the jacket. think it will be a thing warm jumper, t-shirt and jacket. I have thin thermal gloves to go underneath the main gloves.
i'm getting an idea of what i need. I think I wil just take more than less in the car when i go

To be honest, if you don't feel the cold that much, I wouldn't worry. Bear in mind that most of the CBT is spent hanging around getting talked to, or riding slowly around cones etc. you don't really get much speed up so there isn't any wind chill.

At the moment I have the thermal lining detached from my jacket & am wearing a t-shirt underneath. I'm more concerned about staying dry, warmth isn't really isn't an issue to me atm. Good plan taking lots of stuff and keeping it in the car though: you can always nip back and put some togs on if you feel you need it.

Oh, and I think your gear sounds fine.

You'll be concentrating so hard/be so nervous/excited that you'll be sweating like a rapist most of the time!

No need to worry about the cold around town (at this time of year), just put the armour back in the jacket & you'll be ok. I take it the jacket has back armour?

Good luck.

Well if the weather was anything like I had today on the third day of my DAS I'd get some serious waterproofs. Absolutely chucking it down. The good news is that it tested my new Hein Gericke waterproof leather jacket to the full... and it passed with flying colours

Hope so Nick!!! We finished early at around 2pm today and the instructor said I was ready - so I guess I am!! We did quite a few emergency stops in the rain, more U-turns and, apart from a mad 10 seconds at a filter lane when I span the rear wheel through too much juice (instuctor on intercom said "calm down, calm down" ), everything went very smoothly. It's actually quite amazing the difference in my ability between day one on Wednesday and today!! Night and day.

We're meeting at 8am on Monday for a final refresh and then test is at 9:37 in Bournemouth!!!

I shall be straight down my local KTM dealer that afternoon testing the 640 Supermoto if all goes to plan

Best of luck to everyone else doing their DAS at present too!

You hothouse flower you

Doesn't start to get cold at any legal speed until it drops below 5 degrees or so (the bike agrees; I have to put another flat on the mixture nut at the same temperature). Jacket/jumper/shirt will be fine for CBT even if it's colder than that. Any kind of trousers will do (thermally) as long as they're windproof, which can be achieved with a pair of cheap waterproof overtrousers. After two hours cross-country in near-zero temperatures wearing leather trousers with nothing underneath my knees are a bit set in a bent position but I can still work the brakes and gears fine; again a CBT at current temperatures will be no problem.
