On my way to Stepney this morning, I crossed over the A406 Nth Circular Road at East Finchley. There, on the bridge, are two, clearly marked yellow lines. And hardly any kerb - well, it's a bridge, right?
But, parked over those clearly marked yellow lines is a police van with a 'POLICE' sign behind it. It had privacy glass at the back and didn't seem to be looking out for offenders passing it. As I passed him, I noticed his side door was open, so he's obviously clocking all the eastbound Nth Circular Road traffic as he looks down over the masses.

Are the BiB allowed to park on yellow lines (for the purpose of clocking cars)?

Yep.

They can park on yellow lines where they need to for a Police purpose.

Inanimate objects by the road don't cause a collision. Dopes reacting dangerously to it do.
If a Veyron was parked by the road & some dope had a collision because of his staring or reaction to it, the Veyron is not to blame.

Ill bet you a pound to a pinch of the brown stuff that if I or anyone else parked there and a crash ensued, we'd get the blame for it by being responsible for creating an obstruction or suchlike, what makes you guys think it should be any different for you?

If a vehicle is parked in a dangerous position it's a different matter, but yellow lines don't signify it is dangerous to park there. What would stop you parking on yellow lines would be the lack of an exemption.

Not really. The Police can do a lot of things that you can't because their role requires it. They can carry CS gas, you can't. They can search people where you can't. They can go through red traffic lights where you can't. They can get on a bus for free, where you can't. They can speed where you can't & yes they can park where you can't if their role requires it.

It's a simple case of the Police having an exemption because it is needed to fulfill their role

You may always have had the ability to park on double yellows but it was only ever done when a vehicle was on an emergency call, and who would mind then, we'd all understand.

It's indicative of your changing role isn't it, from that of protector and law enforcer to that of tax collector. Makes you feel proud doesn't it.

I don't perform any such role actually.
It's never needed to be an "emergency", just necessary & appropriate for the task required of you at that time. Same with blue lights & speed use. It doesn't have to be an emergency to use them, just that not doing so at that time would have unreasonably hindered you in the execution of your lawful duty.

vonhosen should certainly be proud of 3700 posts in 6 months if nothing else.

Does the man have time to carry out his job effectively with this level of contribution? I'm reliably informed he posts on other forums too.

Could only happen in the public sector I suppose...

That's right, in the course of your duty is fine, we understand that, but now your duty is tax collecting it's not OK, you can't expect the same support when you're stealing tax from us. Helping old ladies, arresting drug dealers . . . park where you like, I'd bet nobody would mind that much but when you're pilfering £60 from me you should obey the same laws as the rest of us.

As I've said, I am nothing to do with SCPs or Trafpol, but they as part of their duties will perform such speed enforcement where deemed necessary.

I don't know if you do personally man the tax scameras, that's not the issue is it, the issue is the fact that the police are now tax collectors, stealing tax from motorists and abusing their powers in order to do that.

You can park where you like, you can within reason drive above the posted speed limits etc, that's fine if you are carrying out the duty of a police officer, but do that when you're stealing from us and you do not have our support and morally you're way out of line. The remaining honest, decent plod will suffer for the arrogance and lack of respect shown by their colleagues.

What is it with the police and their tax collection vans? On many occasions during my travels, I have observed, written in bold letters on the side, 'ACCIDENT REDUCTION UNIT'. Now forgive me if i am wrong but how can a van parked in a slightly sheilded location (on a normally fast and safe road) that resembles a 'Motorway maintenance' vehicle be saving the lives of hundreds? The first people are aware of this wonderful van, that stops accidents occuring, is when a fine arrives on thier doorstep, two days latter! long after any accidents could be prevented. They should write on the side 'Road tax top-up'

Why do we have double yellow lines in the first place? I thought that they were there to ease congestion and/or prevent danger amongst other things. Bib shouldn't be allowed to abuse them. The tts in the vans are no better then the average motorist so probably more of a danger for parking on double yellows and not paying attention to their surroundings.

Von, you seem to post an awful lot all over the place. Are you being paid to change BB opinions like a public ralations chap or are you here for your own beliefs? That said, I do find your posts informative and now we've got GB as well. I don't always agree with stuff but it's interesting to see what we're up against.
