944 S2 verses turbo running costs
Discussion
Anybody give me an informed view on the "real world" difference in running costs between my excellent 944 S2 and the turbo ? Bear in mind I do all my own spanner work unless it needs a car lift and special tools !!
I can only think of blowing the turbo as a big bill. (Whats the working life of a 944 turbo ?)
I've seen an add for a turbo ragtop that looks nice. My insurance is due for renewal soon will contact them for a quote.
In case your thinking why not get a S2 convertible the answer is I need A/C when heats on !! Its standard on the turbo and I've never seen a S2 convertible with A/C.
Cheers

Apart from some small differences you are looking at the two engines
Turbos needs belts changing every 4 years, engine is strong and the turbo has excellent longevity but is more complex
S2 you have to watch for chain/tensioner (slippers are made of plastic) wear and the cams
Chain should be changed around 100k

Personally I don't think there's much in it. Check out my profile and you'll find the costs of my S2 over 74k miles and my Turbo over 50k miles to be very similar. If you ignore the large figure for upgrades on the Turbo then it works out cheaper (and the Turbo is the one used on many track days gobbling up brakes and fuel)
