Vents above parcel shelf

Are the two black circular things above the parcel shelf on the griff for air ventilation?

Where can you buy them from?

I thought it was to do with to helping air move about when shutting doors/boot. I know there are other holes behind the Petrol tank but if they werent there wouldnt the boot be a nightmare to shhot as you would be trying to force more air into the space..unless you close the boot slow and carefully. And the same theory with the doors?

My Chimaera has two speakers where the vents should be and one of the vents re-sited equidistant between the two speakers (presumably to be on the safe side).

Over the years I've heard all the theories about these vents but IMO none of them stack up. The cabin is in no way air tight so that theory's out, neither is the boot because you can stick your arm up over the wheel arch! I have speakers in the rear bulkhead and I can shut the boot, neither have I ever suffocated I would say they are totally superfluous.

I think the other reason for the vents is to aid the heater fan, is there is too much pressure built up in side then the fan can struggle more that it already does.

They are superfluous except for the possibility that they just fill up the holes that were put there in case extra speakers were fitted. There are already connections for the speakers running part way back into the B-pillar so that would seem likely. Most people put speakers there if they fit them (I did).

If you think they are for releasing air into the boot cavity, think about this:

1. The boot cavity is supposedly sealed as well.
2. If you check when you are moving the air flow, if any, is from the boot into the cabin through these vents.

So I reckon they are purely cosmetic.

I'm thinking of fitting some to my 350SE, with the aim of getting more fresh air into the cabin to aid in stopping the windows steaming up. So if the air flow goes that way then that's fine.
