Anyone else noticed this on the shelves recently? Given the wide viscosity range, I'm assuming it must be a 'proper' ester based synth (but have fired off an email enquiry to Halfords to see if they will confirm)... seems good value if so

I tried 3 Helfrauds for Mobil 15/50 motorsport and none had any in stock and I needed some fairly drastically and I ended up buying some of this to top up with.Seemed good value for 5 litres ( £32/£33ish ).

I wouldn't knock it purely based on the Halfords label on it..
If i have to source Fully synthetic in the UK i would certainly be interested in how well it performs..

I'm no expert on oil, but i'm certainly a believer that if you're changing your oil every 3k miles or so, the difference between the likes of Mobil 1 and Halfords would be virtually non-existent..

I'd like to know the thoughts of those in the know...

I used their synthetic gear box oil in my race car for 2 years and had no problems at all, I only bought it as I needed some urgently with the intention of changing it once I got hold of some decent stuff, but ended up using it until I sold the car

Pretty sure the Halfords stuff is rebranded Comma stuff which in turn in rebranded Valvoline stuff - just going in the packaging look anyway

When this oil came out I requested a technical overview - Essentially its supplied by Mobil Exxon repackaged but not to be confused with Mobil 1. Its good value but consider Morris 10/50 viscocity for same price a far superior make-up.

By way of comparison, the Silkolene Pro S 10W50 I use for the Cerb comes in around £33 for 5L delivered from Opie Oils (I order 20L at a time).

Dear Mr Pupp

Thank you for your email.

Please accept my apologies for the delay in our response, unfortunately our
product team have been away in the Far East and were unable to asisst me..

However they have now returned, and have advised me that our synthetic
oil is refined from a mineral base.

I hope that this is of some use to you

Just to close this off, and straight from the horses mouth. Seems not all synthetics are, er, synthetic read
