Hiya,
I spoke to Jools on Saturday, when I dropped the car off for him to 'work his magic' on it!
I am only in North London and usually go to the Mid Essex runs, so maybe we could sort something out? I'm going to pick the car back up on Saturday.

Cheeky, but if you could get all the parts together (longer wires for muppets like myself), post a rough guide, and let me know how much, I'll send you a cheque to cover bits plus postage plus a few quid for your troubles. Let me know if this is poss. I just never seem to have the time to do this sort of stuff. If not don't worry...
Cheers

Errm, just a thought, but do you guys really want a fuse as the bling thing on the front of your engines?
Easy to change and all that but damm!

I think this is an excellent place to put the big fuse. We can treat it like a shrine and praise it every time we open the bonnet. After all, no BF no fun. Praise the 'BIG FUSE'...

I'm thinking of getting a VWP mega fuseholder and mounting it centrally on the firewall behind the fuel rail and throttle linkage and below the bonnet catch rod. Alu rivnuts would be neatest way of fitting but I need to check with Joo whats behind there before I start drilling
That puts it in an accesible place but away from the serious heat and the mega holder is 8mm fittings. The cable runs would be more or less as they are now. Although I was planning on replacing the cables to put 8mm rings on for the fuse holder. From what I can see the alternator needs a 5mm ring and I suspect the connections onto the starter solenoid are also 5mm.
I need to get the fuel rail off to see how the cables are connected at the starter. As far as I can tell the feed from the alternator goes via the fuse to the starter solenoind and thence via the other big cable to the battery.
Anyone confirm this?

sounds like a lot of work to me the alternator is an M8 the old connections are M5
am i right that if you mount it where i think you still have to take off the big battery cover
i placed mine for maximum ease of use and my fuse holder has m8 connectors far better but each to their own

Yes the bonnet panel/battery cover would have to come off. But if I'm checking/changing the fuse then I'm likely doing other stuff as well so I'd have the cover removed anyway. Admittedly if it goes pop on the road then I have to remove the panel to replace it.
The fuse holder I was looking at is M8 hence replacing the cables since as you say the existing ones are M5.
The gold plated fuse holder you have fitted is much better quality though so If I'm changing it I might as well get something like you have fitted.
Yours is a neat job and looks really good (especially the cables) but I was wanting to keep the fuse out of the way rather than running cables over the top of the engine.
And I must be getting too old to appreciate fully the bling
As you say each to their own.

its not that bling when the bonnet is down, lol i think people know what an AJPV8 looks like.
as for cable routing i'm sure you can put them where you like i made a new ALT cable and just joined the other (LIVE) to make it longer, where i put it was just for ease.
but nowhere else to put it really stood out ???
