And yet another oil question
Discussion
Having recently change the oil and filter I was surprised at the oil that came out,
it was was blacker than a black thing in a pitch-black cave, at night,
is that normal ?
I have changed the oil on a lot of cars in the past and have never seen oil as bad,
especially as the short mileage between oil changes.
My thoughts on it are maybe the garage forgot to change the oil at the last service,
or that the engine is not made to high tolerances and that allows the combustion side into the oil side.
The car has a full service history from main dealers and has covered about 60000 miles

Thanks for the reply Rob.
the oil in the car was fully synthetic
(there was a 1 ltr bottle in the boot when I bought it)
and the use is not short journeys and having covered only 5000 mls since the last oil change I was expecting the oil to be in good condition.
It probably was still working well, just didn't look that good,

The Mobil 1 oil I've been using in my Chim has done about 2000 miles so far and it's still golden. I think mineral oil goes much darker (as previously mentioned) as I used Castrol GTX (mineral oil) in my 2.9 Sierra last year and that quickly went dark, then changed to Shell Helix 10-40w (semi-synthetic non-mineral) earlier this year and it's much lighter in colour still, having done near 10,000 miles.
I'm no expert but from experiance it would seem that mineral oil goes black quicker than non mineral!
