Ok car now specced, it is a road spec daily driver GT3 spec!
Arctic Silver (yes I know it's boring but pictures are stunning & I don't want "lairy". so sold!)
Full Leather pack (don't want all plastic interior in an £80k car)
Xenons (because standard lights are rather poor!)
Cruise (for cameras!)
Sound Pack (standard stereo is CRAP!)
Seat crests (lifts the interior a touch)
Sat Nav module for PCM ( handy & useful for road spec re-sale)...............

BUT...should I spend the extra £500 squid+ & get the integral phone option???
I don't use the phone in car very often, so not sure it will be of use, but will buyers want it come re-sale???

Thanks for your opinions.

Its a desirable option on road 997s but you won't lose £500 so if you are not going to use don't get it.

On the other hand what's another £500 and it will pee you off when you get a quote on retrofit. So will you use it?

I'm in the same boat here, but will probably end up getting it. I imagine most people looking for PCM will expect the phone module.
Pretty decent spec for the road, do you also get a spec a choice of tyres ???

The phone system is not worth the money. You end up buying another sim-card because it's such a pain having to remember to put it in the minature "cup-holder" and taking it out every time you use the car.

Solution seems to be just get a pay-as-you-go SIM card and set your mbile up with a quick function to divert to the other number. I never said it was good value but no Porsche option is.

Just tried one with PCM - stuck in a SIM card and it said there was no phone - so the phone option is needed in addition to PCM/Nav etc?

Also - on the Nav. system - how can the map display be configuredf to show North as up (rather than rotating the map to show direction of travel as up)?

(( sorry - the manual is only in German ))

If you are getting another SIM card with different number, okay. I've an integrated phone system in the Mazzer and it really is a pain in the RS to keep pulling the SIM card from my phone...

There's the option of getting a clone SIM. I tried that with our 'Phones Department'.... Not worth the hassle of filling out 4 forms explaining why I wanted it....

The extra sim etc needed for the Phone kit is a pain in the ass...!
Best bet is to get a bluetooth kit installed for about £150.... No messing around.
Quite why Porsche haven't seen fit to go this way baffles me confused

Yep - I'm going the after market Bluetooth route too. Much more effective/convenient - and cheaper!

Grant - good colour choice - second best colour after red I reckon. But what do I know - I'm sticking with plastic dash!

High street phone shop (Carphone Warehouse I think) put kit into my 997S. Very neat, all wires hidden, looked like OE to be honest. If you'd removed it there would have been two very tiny holes. Best go and speak to them. They aranged for a local ICE specialist to do the work. Mind you they ran a mile when I wanted same in Aston - said they couldn't get behind the dash.

You know Porsche of course they are extra!

Blimey I note you have gone for man-made resin seats to go with the plastic dash & a chunk of metal to hold it all together, & paid £3,000.00 extra for the pleasure,.................. they saw you coming!!!

I've fitted several now - one in my 996 - No cutting at all. The display is fixed to the dash using sticky pads - they need renewing now and again (once a year maybe) but it means no drilling etc. smash

I'll think of you, savouring the aroma of - expensive - leather, twiddling you stereo/phone/ipod controls as you cruise up the Kings Road while I'm enjoying the smell off tortured rubber at the 'Ring.

Had the phone option in my old car and used a clone SIM card which worked well in general. The issue was that when I left on the regular mobile and the built-in phone booted up, all calls were diverted to the SIM in the car, even when switched off again... They only came to the regular phone after a reboot. Sounds a bit like Microsoft IMHO

Didn't get the phone option in my new car. Haven't regretted this so far. Let's wait till selling time approaches... Dr S
