After the last one fell through following a PPI that raised a number of question marks about previous accident damage and repair, I went to see another 993 this weekend - a Targa this time, which is what I had started out looking out but then given up, thinking that a decent manual was going to be outside my budget.

www.pistonheads.com/sales/102769.htm

Manual, my preferred silver/black colour combo, new clutch and brakes recently, suspension has been renewed in the past, new rear tyres and the paintwork appears to be in very good nick. Had a short test drive too and it seemed to handle nicely and to pull hard - but then I have very little frame of reference so I'm not sure I'd have noticed if it didn't, to be honest!

Anyway, a deposit was left and it's undergoing a PPI at Strasse tomorrow. Fingers crossed that this one doesn't fall at the same hurdle as the last - and that the bank pulls its finger out and moves money around in time for me to draw a draft to collect at the weekend. The owner goes away on holiday for two weeks on Saturday so I'd prefer not to have to wait another fortnight!

You see, it was meant to be. You said all along you wanted a Targa but would settle for a coupe, hopefully now you won't have to settle!

Fingers crossed for you Mark...

Truth be told, I flogged my Zymol Japon wax on s2ki many moons ago and decided to give Zaino a try, Rich. Can't say I found it much different, to be honest!

These days, it's pretty much academic - I'm too idle to devote the hours to detailing that I used to when I first got the S2000

(Mind you, I suppose that might change with the novelty of a "new" car on the drive.....)

i think you might be tempted to make your new toy shiny .... .

I hadnt properly detailed the S2000 for nearly a year when i sold it - but strangely yesterday found myself doing claybar, HD cleanse, wax, and detail wax in between torrential downpours !. I finished doing the interior in the garage about 11pm last night. Col would have been proud

Keep us updated on the Porker, and ill expect more pics when you take delivery!.

oh, and final reply before i stop hijacking your thread. How have you found the insurance on the Porker ?, i was expecting my wallet to be extracted via my nose, but was surprised to find i was given a 70 quid refund on the remainder of my years insurance when i swapped from S2000, to 996.

Not checked a Targa yet but the cheapest quotes I got for the C2 Coupe I came close to buying came in around £600, compared to £775 for the S2000 at the last renewal. So, quite a bit cheaper.

I'm also going to look into classic insurance, given that the car is 10 years old - from what I've read on here, a limited miles (5-6K p.a.) policy could be cheaper still.

My insurance was nearly 50% cheaper on the C4S than the S2000.
I've also fallen in with Meguiars and started looking after the car.......
Strange especially for me.

Must sell all the Zaino I have

Fingers crossed LL.

Woo hoo!

Strasse report that the car is mechanically sound and drives like it ought to.

They've flagged up a few minor issues (most notably that the brake lights don't work for some reason, and the passenger central locking doesn't work from the key) and some minor cosmetic stuff, but nothing that's a deal-breaker and that I can't live with. It's unrealistic to expect a 10 year old car to not need anything at all done to it.

So, just now need the money movements to go through on time and cleared funds to be available on Friday to draw a draft!

The end of the hunt may just about be in sight....

Well done Mr Lawyer.

I have been following your threads with a lot of interest as your search criteria and subsequent car choice is exactly what I am contemplating.

There is nothing wrong with detailed research - its all part of the buying experience. It took me about a year of research to buy my first Porsche - i loved every minute of it - the two girlfriend's over that period did'nt, but thats another story...

Please keep us (me) informed of your ownership experience and I may even rack your brain from time to time if ok?

I'll be sure to post my impressions once I've had the car for a while. From the few test drives I've had of 993s, it's apparent it's going to take a while to get used to compared with how the S2000 used to feel!

Please feel free to e-mail me through my profile if you think I can be of assistance, treacle - I shall do my best to assist

The first thing I noticed is how different the pedal layout was and also how diff the brakes feel.
