Cleaning 4.5 injectors

Is this something that can be done with petrol/thinners by DIY mechanic?

no

Try a bottle of injector cleaner in the fuel tank first if that doesn't work then get them all out and take a look in your local yellow pages for someone who can clean them in an ultrasound bath

ultra sonic cleaning is best as above but NITROX or any good injector cleaner will help BUT BEWARE ome are not cat friendly read the bottle

Thanks chaps. But I just ended up putting it all back together in the end, now the new oil switch is in. So won't bother with the injectors. Cars only done 25k anyway so they can't be that bad.

Will put a can of Nitrox/etc in once its back on the road.

Austec have the appropriate ultrasonic injector cleaning system.

Also Tower View Race Services. I spoke to Mark this morning and he has a contact he does them through. Works out about mid 30s quid per injector to be done.

Something I might look into at a later date.

In 12 years i've nly ever had one set of injectors cleaned and they came back worse than they went, ie they worked when i sent them away and one was stuck fully open when the set came back. The glowing manifold was quite scary.

i will never ever ever have another set of injectors cleaned. Use good quality petrol and you'll never have a problem until they start to wear anyway.

Sounds like whoever cleaned your injectors did it with a pen knife!
