There are kit available on Ebay for less than a hundred quid posted and I'm very tempted. They are supposed to be much brighter than a halogen bulb whilst using less power. Give a nice white colour too.

Anyone done this? Is it worth it?

Seems a bit too cheap, normally HID conversions can be a couple of hundred quid or more..........can you post a link as I have thought about HID conversion for my bike.

Here's a link:

There are lots of other kits on there. They seem to be the real thing with a ballast/starter box. Didn't BMW charge about 2K for these lights on their cars?

Denny, is there a self leveling requirement on bike HID systems?

Nope not on retro fit mate , you just have to make sure your lights are properly adjusted and clean .

Have you fitted one yourself? I'm tempted to fit one to the Falco, but there does seem to be conflicting advice out there about what you need to do to get things to work.

I was initially looking at doing just the dip beam because of the 'start-up' time for high beam use but I see that some suppliers claim that they are 'instant-on'. How instant is it? as the Xenons on my car (dip only) are not instant-on enough, IMO, for high beam use due to the flicker-start-up which is not quick enough for example for quick flash.

There is a cover which moves on the bulb operated by a solenoid to do main and dip , its the same bulb that does both so it dosent reignite to do dip and main beam , have a look on the site i posted up and it will show you in a pic how it works

Yes I saw that but my bike has two separate lights, left is dip (projector) and right is high beam only so it would need a 2 bulb setup.

Just wondering how good this setup is on HID - if the delay for high beam is like on my car I wouldn't be happy, it's OK on dip as that would be always on anyway.

Unless somehow, somewhere there is a headlight mod allowing Bi-Xenon in both light housings which would be great, although expensive, but I've not seen one.

I would go for HID dipped and 100w main beam normal mate , HID kick in time is the problem , but i dont think you will go wrong woth that combination mate beer

Yeah that might be the best idea, think I'd need to rewire the full beam though as the Italian electrics are 'marginal' but then I'd be saving 20w on the dip so the Regulator might just stand it....... beer

Hi Catso,

Please let us know how you get on. If you have a good experience, I'll very likely follow suit on my Ducati.

Cheers

What about the H4 HIDs, do they suffer from the same problem?

Nope , H4 has a cover that slides to do dip and main beam mate .
