Morning gang,

I currently run a couple of bikes. A very modified TL1000R and a little GPZ500s for terrorising other motorists on my way to work.

Anyway the little GPZ is an ace bike for the money and i've put about 7k on her since april on my daily commute. She gets thrashed within an inch of her life and not especially loved. All this and she's reached the dizzy heights of 30k with little more than a clutch replacement.

Anyway, i was thinking of a replacement hack for the little GPZ. Basically i'd like some more power so i can cruise more comfortably at high speed and better brakes.
I want to keep the bike fairly nimble as the GPZ is great for getting round urban traffic and of course it needs to be pretty tough mechanically like the GPZ as it will have a pretty tough life and pretty cheap.. around 1500quid or so.

Have considered YZF750's and ZZR600's etc. Any thoughts people?

Cheers,

Nick

agree with the cbr6, ultimate all-rounder. it will be a tatty old one for 1500 though

zzr6 isn't as nimble, but bulletproof

Cheers guys,

I think the GPZ 1100 will be a bit heavy round town..(may give one a try though).. Part of the appeal of the 500 (apart from costing me 600 quid) is that is is very light so you can just bung it around the traffic.

My first 'big' bike was a ZZR600 and managed to have dodgy piston rings.. A very rare thing i think.. Am tempted with another..

The thundercat i think is a very good bike... Dont think the engine is as tough as the KWAK but for the right money may give one a go.

Looking at another thread a TRX850 may be worth a punt too..

The CBR600 is probably an ideal choice.. But for some reason im just not a fan.. maybe its a bit bland or something.. Dont ask why.. especially at the 1500 quid budget end

You do get used to it and I used to commute into Reading on mine which required a fair bit of filtering. I'm not sure I'd get one if I was just going from one end of town to the other though although they're a lot more intimidating to your average car driver than a smaller bike. The thundercat is another excellent bike.

Hi Dern,

well for the money i will definitely consider both.
My TLR is great but it has a very long 1st gear and now does about 30mpg max on super unleaded so not the ideal commuter.. Plus its heavy on the wrists at slow speed.

what sort of mileage (mpg) did you get from the GPZ1100?

Must admit my blade is a bit of a pain when I'm knackered in the morning and I've been keeping an eye out for another gpz. Can't remember what mpg I got from it but I used to get over 150 miles from the tank from memory I'm afraid. This review...

...seems to suggest 42mpg but I guess that that's US gallons which are a bit smaller than ours.

thanks for the info.

Well even if 42mpg was UK figures it would be totally acceptable..
I may have to give one a try..
