Hi guys,

My first post here, so good day to you all

Ive just brought a focus 2.0 tdci. has 4k on the clock. pretty nice car. I wanted a car that did well on fuel but could a bit of fun at teh same time.

However, Im already thinking about giving it a of a boost. given the kerb weight of the thing I feel its a touch underpowered (bear in mind I have a history of owning quick cars, a modified 338bhp celica GT4 being one of them ). I guess Im comparing this to a SEAT ibiza cupra which I test drove a few weeks back. That thing really took me by suprise for a standard car, but then they are 160 bhp and some 300 kgs lighter. The downside was it was too small (and that one puffed a bit of blue smoke when the garage guy drove it back into the yard, not good for just 10k miles).

anyway. Ive been doing some research and it seems the common way forward is to install a tuning chip or maybe a RICA remap. whatever I do it needs to be fairly hidden so it doesnt void the manufacturers warranty. I like the revo kit for the VW engines as they can come with a port switch to revert the ecu back to standard for servicing time (or when the misses drives it so she doesnt know Ive chipped it ). Something like this would be ace).

Question... does the chip or remap also up the boost in anyway? I dont think they do, and I cant see (based on my experience of turbo petrol engines) how they can make the claimed power gains just from fueling adjustments alone. There doesnt seem to be a huge amount of info on how these work. That bothers me, I like to know what its doing.

Secondly. An intercooler upgrade worked pretty well on my GT4, and I wondered if people have done this to their diesels, and if so what effect did it have? Is it worth it? (something I wont consider doing until the warranty is out though, Im just curious)

thanks in advance for any comments etc

Damian

Doesnt seem to be available for the 2.0 tdci yet, according to the superchips site. TBO Im not a great fan of superchips anyway, although the unit does look pretty smart.
