Apologies if this has already been discussed but I can’t get the forum search to bring anything up.

I am just about to entrust my Chimaera to a TVR Independent Dealer for the first service since its been in my possession (36K miles) but I can’t believe the differential in price for a 12,000 mile service. I have contacted several that are within striking distance and they have quoted:

Offords £360 (internet)
PPC (Ex TMS) £627.149 (phone)
Austec £499.38 (Internet)
Racing developments £506(Internet)

Now, I realise that some dealers offer a cheaper price to get you through the door and then charge for absolutely everything while other apply an all in price but I would be interested to hear opinions, experiences and any alternatives.

Any negative feedback please PM me to avoid contravening the site rules.

I really can’t believe the differential between the extremes!

I used one of those garages for four years but not any more. YHM

I now use Sebring near Wisbech. Matt there certainly knows his stuff.

I have been using the Offords as well and found them to be very reasonable so far. Back in next week for chassis treatment and CV boots...

Dream Machines charges me About £620 inc vat for a 12000 on my 450.
Afterwards Chris Baldock at James Motorsports (Maidstone) used to be the workshop foreman at Walldonway TVR quoted me a much lower figure (IRO£350 I think) Tel 07866 462977

Just had my 12,000 done last weekend. They pointed out a couple of things that would ideally be done, but also said that they weren't a real issue at the moment, so I didn't do them. I had a new oil pressure sender unit that I had already identified as faulty. Total came to £430. I was happy with the service and the courtesy car I had for the week free of charge. It was an old banger with 190,000 on the clock, but ran fine and I would rather have this than dealer prices of £650 and having to pay another £15 for a courtesy car for a day.

And you probably didn't have to worry about someone opening a door into it and being charged your £500 excess to repair the ding.

This was Offords. They only had my car for a week as I live a two hour drive away from them, so I dropped it off one Saturday and picked up the next. The reason I went so far, as due to what I think is an excellent price. I saved about £200 on a dealer service for the cost of fifty quid of petrol and eight hours of driving. North East lincolnshire is not well covered for TVR servicing as you can guess from this.

No, I don't think they would have noticed, or cared.

Well, just to update you & say thanks for all the responses:

I eneded up going to Offords for the £350 option.

They called me and gave me a list of stuff that they thought should really be done which came to an extra £1600 on top of the service!

In fairness the brake discs and pads all need changing which I already knew but I declined all the extra work until I can assess it myself and probably do most of it myself.

Thanks again for all the input!
