Changing engine mounts?
Discussion
Hi Paul,
Just had mine done, I 'think' but am not certain that the manifolds have to come off as the chap who did mine was also removing the precats so suggested we did it at the same time as my mounts were tired.
Also I got mine from Rimmer brothers for about £40 inc vat and delivery BUT i was told that they were not as good as the OEM TVR ones which are about £60ish.
As you will probably only change them once I would go for the TVR ones.
Lig.

I changed mine myself didnt need to take manifolds off to do it, although if they are off it would be easier. A little tricky get the old off and a new in place but do-able on Jacks and using a trolley jack to hold engine, I don one side complete and then the other. Look in my profile for forums as i asked the same q's a while back if the search facility isnt working.

I did side (the near side as it looked easier, the mount was in 2 parts when it came off, took me about an hour but decided no to bother doing the side as it was dark.
Also bought a decent trolley jack for the job so hopefully it won't fall off this time and break any more bones
Not the easiest job in a cast this one.

Steve was telling me mine needed doing next time when he had my Griff for a service in the summer. I got the feeling he'd changed plenty of them too.
Also he added the mounts ain't what they used to be. Not sure where he gets his from though.
Cheers

The mounts are no longer made by Metzeler but look the same.
The Rimmer Bros ones have less rubber in their construction , so the engine will move about more coupled with the intense manifold heat, the life of the mount will be significantly reduced.
Five minutes to change one is a bit optimistic in my view
Bet the five minutes works out at £100/hr. It might take Five minutes to change the old mount from the bracket once it is in the vice.

Found that this job was a good excuse to buy a set of ratchet ring spanners

yes: I remember on Daves great advise about the ratchet ring spanners make the job so much easier, especially with the flexible head. and done forget to add the heatshield to protect them on, Daves site HERE BB

Are there any other alternatives out there? Need to do this soon and I'm not enthused about putting 'wobbly' mounts on...
got mine from TVR spares,ok not original but better than sagging fried ones i took off,5 mins my arse......takes about 30 minutes with a ramp about 1hr on the floor i guess.ratchet spanner does help manifolds can stay put.align them properly though if you just bang them on you will see the manifold(pre cat area)touching the chassis on one side, the engine as to be positioned on the mounts, just common sense really, best done while moving the jack about then nip up bolts.DONT LOOSE THE SPACER ON ONE OF THE MOUNTINGS.
Both mounts are done, one came off in 2 pieces, the other side wasn't broken but thought it best to change both anyway. the N/S was easy, about an hour including getting the tools out and putting them away again, the O/S was a bit tricking and I ended up taking the bracket off the engine as couldn't get my ratchet spanner in the space. that side took about 1.5 hours although had to keep taking the bracket back off to move the mount slightly also getting the bolts in with one hand meant it was tricky.
I got both mounts from RPi on eBay for £53 inc delivery.
