Anyone up for a challenge? Just as a bit of fun (and to get some more photos up on the forum ) I'd like to set a challenge, anyone of any level should feel free to contribute, don't be shy. All camerea types welcome - even phones. There's no prizes, no winners or loosers just the opportunity for a bit of a stretch of the learning curve. Anyone feel free to comment as the images are posted up.

Ok, so the challenge is to take a photo without using the viewfinder (or LCD for point and shooters). The idea being that as you become a more proficient photographer you develop the ability to visulaise the shot without looking through the viewfinder, knowing what will be there and how the shot will come out. While you may or may not have this ability already it may change your way of thinking No sneaky peaky cheating though! Subject matter can be anything you like.

So lets see those shots...

Good idea.

I shot from the hip with the shot below after seeing the dog taking interest in my camera. It's nothing special, but makes me smile

Its funny you should bring this up today, because over the weekend whilst gallavanting around london, I was suddenly overcome with the urge to take just one single shot (under my arm, pretending I was James Bond, on the run and firing at a baddie who was under cover behind a newspaper in delicatessen) and whlist zoomed in whilst running myself, I managed to catch this purely by chance... here it is, unprocessed and straight out of the camera...

I forgot to say that what we're looking to produce are interesting shots, rules of composition and expose need not nessasarily be correct, free your minds

I'll try and get something done specifically but it reminded me of this one I took from the hip in Leith last summer

This one is amongst a whole series that were shot without looking through the VF. Cheating abit though by using such a wide angle lens but still fits the rules

here's another one

Horrible light in there too. Dark dusty warehouse. Nice

Are you sure you took that from your hip? From your shadow it looks like you're holding something to your face!

Well strictly speaking it was round my neck. The shadow to my face is my right hand resting against my face trying to look nonchalant while fiddling with the shutter with my left

Actually I did a few later that evening of the "put camera on table in pub and subtly hit the button when it's loud so no one hears the shutter" type

I only posted this t'other day but it fits the brief - shot whilst swinging the camera around by my feet whilst holding down the shutter release. I wont post the 40 odd ones that came out crap!

Taken a few inches off the stream, no way I could look through the viewfinder as I didn't fancy lying in the stream!

Straight off the camera.
