What's quite ironic is the huge Harley Davidson advert in the middle of the article (bigger, better, shinier, gruntier).

Whilst such behaviour is bad, obviously timesonline requires the advertising revenue hehe

I think it was the thespian Bill Duke who, playing a character called 'Cook' [a baddie, btw] in the great opus "Commando," uttered the immortal words, "I like Cadillacs.

Being a sad, far from balding and remarkably lithe near middle aged self delusionalist, I'd like to express my own enthusiam by way of reference to the posted article and garnish it with essence of Viz.

"I like lezzas, me!"

What unspeakable binthood.

PMSL, just how out of touch is she?

The points she raises could be levelled at any adrenalin 'junkie' from a downhill skier to a jockey.

As for the points about pouring over magazines etc, just look at the shelves of any newagents and there's more women's magazines than anything else, be it Marie Claire with their sex stories and vacuous fashion drivel or the likes of Hello with it's voyouristic aspirations, or the worst of all the magazines covering the tittle tattle and gossiping of bored housewives, what model has cellulite and who's banging who from Eastenders! Yawn!

My wife is as much a PetrolHead as I am, she adores cars, admires the people who can drive them with skill and most importantly can't wait to get behind the wheel of our Cerb' and get round a track.

It strikes me that Ms' Linda Knight is lacking something in her life, I hope she finds it soon so she can stop whinging and pi55ing the rest of us off!

Well, what a cheek! Just who does she think she is, speaking for all women like that? mad

If anyone had written such a ridiculous rant about women all being handbag fiends or spending 6 hours in the bathroom before going out, or any other such patently stupid generalisation, they'd be looking for another job.

I have just emailed her the following... cc'd to the editor.

Dear India,

Frankly I am amazed that you manage to have such ill informed and sexist drivel published. I could write more but it would be even more of a waste of my time than reading your words. You are an embarrassment.

Craig Williams.

ps. as an aside, hilarious placement of the Harley Davidson advert. Your advertising team must have a great sense of humour.

Knew I shouldn't have sent the link to the wife! She's just sent this to Ms' Bloody Knight

Dear Ms Knight

I feel compelled, as a fellow female, to write to you with a single question...

Why do you hate men so much?

Please do not direct your horrific anti-male predjudice toward Richard Hammond and his recovery to get your outmoded point of view across.
People like you are giving women a bad name, as you put it...

''wielding your metaphorical rolling pin, spoiling the fun''.

I have a husband, we both enjoy Top Gear and have done for years. I also have an 18 month old child, who is car mad and thinks men in race suits are seriously cool.
I am not a fifteen year old bimbo who is impressed by machismo. Nor have I ever been impressed by such things. I am a 38 year old woman who loves cars with a passion,
I love motor sport and all the things that go with it. I find your article both condescending and rude.

As for your suggestion that woman would not be interested in having top gear back on our screens, can I point you in the direction of the Pistonheads.com appeal, I think you will find that nearly as many women, as men have contributed to the air ambulance appeal, all urging him back onto our screens soon.

www.justgiving.com/PHRichardHammond

Long may Top Gear and programmes of the ilk thrive and here's hoping Hammond is back on our screens soon, doing what he is really good at, being a hugely charismatic and interesting motoring journalist, and continuing to upset you deeply. A fact that we can all take delight in.

Posted to the Times:
"I see Ms. Knight has joined the ranks of the fun police.

Denegrating other peoples lives and loves is a desperately weak journalistic enterprise, and redolent of an individual who possesses neither the wit nor intelligence to accept that the mainstay of the human condition is variety. I am surprised that the editor allows such poor quality onto the pages of the newspaper.
But strikingly the same editor must have a sense of humour in allowing a Harley Davidson advertisement to be placed next to the article.
Perhaps there is a sense of justice there after all!!"

A quote from Ms. Knight re her journalistic interpretations:

“I don’t like facts very much, which is a bit of a bummer, really, if you’re a hack,” she says. “It always annoyed me that the facts wouldn’t bend to the much better story that I had in mind.”

Hmmm.

If the email link on the article works I suggest as many of us as possible bombard her with suitable vitriol for her remarks, particularly if we could get a sizeable response from female PistonHeaders!

Here is what I have just sent her.

"Dear India, sorry better call you "Ms" Knight, I may not be able to express my utter disbelief and annoyance at your article with your level of articulation, as its what you do for a living.

For a presumably well educated and intelligent woman you seem to have an incredibly narrow minded and sexist view of men, male camaraderie and some of the things that give them pleasure.

I can understand you may feel embitter from some of your childhood experiences with your petrolhead father, however I would have thought if you were at all close with him you would have understood a bit more about the passions involved with fast cars and motorsports, unfortunately people do get hurt as they do with many other sports people get passionately involved in, horse riding, mountain climbing, flying, mountain biking and so on.

Presumably because its non PC to like fast cars those of us who do are very uncool and no doubt responsible for the destruction of everything from the rain forests to the falling birth rates in the great panda community.

You have missed the point of Top Gear, at least in its current format, but an old fasioned mile!

In an attempt to make it more accessible to non petrol heads the majority of the program is tongue in cheek and very much taking the rise out of the "my car is my penis" kind of attitudes you are on about. Jeremy Clarkson is almost a self parody, if anyone takes him seriously its certainly not Jeremy himself. Another reason why the program and particularly its presenter are so loved is that its that it blatantly sticks two fingers up at the miserable, politically correct, nagging, environmentally misguided and misinformed who try so desparately to police any form of fun.

Finally as for "the utter prattishness of men who, crushed and disappointed by life in one way or another, try to claw back a little masculinity, a bit of cojones, by overindulging in traditionally male pursuits, be they driving fast, drinking to excess, sleeping with hundreds of women or whatever."
What an incredibly stupid and stereotypical view of men, do you actually know any? some people (yes women also!) drive fast in an appropriate environment, at no danger to others as a pleasurable activity - buy your definition these people must also be sexually irresponsible alcoholics!

What a simple little black and white world you live in!

Fast cars forever!"
