Ive seen some Nitron shocks for sale with the spring ratings at 550 front and 450 rear
seem a little too stiff for anything other than a track , anyone out there with a better idea of whats okay for a griff 500 for a fast road set up ?

This might be a good starting point:

www.nitron.co.uk/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_24_40&products_id=19

Other than that, Trackcar has experience of these dampers. Although I think his are valved to his spec, might be worth dropping a line.

your std Nitron kit will do very nicely for fastroad/track, 350/250?

the Griff can be VERY quick on those springs and they are fine for the road firming the ride but not making it harsh. Ran mine for the best part of 20,000mls - many on track with these.

now running MUCH harder and its STILL fine on the road!

i have nitrons...set up by topcats so very happy with them. not sure what settings they are on but in the rain my car feels really twitchy and in standing water on the M23 coming back from Brighton on the weekend the car was scary! Serious aquaplaning! I presume the stiffer the car is set up the worse it will be in the rain? I am running s03s all round so maybe not best for wet weather either?

Standard rates are 325 front and 250 rear. Probably best for all round use. I've uprated mine to 400 front and 300 rear combined with rose jointed anti roll bars. Before increasing the spring rates you should perhaps fit the rose joints which stiffen the car up noticeably. The beauty of the Nitrons is you have so much control over damping that you can wind them right down for road use which helps mask the stiff ride and then wind them right up for track which when combined with track tyres (R888s) makes it handle extremely well. cloud9

THanks for the advice lads , I was going to fit the shpub drop links to the car at the same time as the new shocks was just a bit concerned that the spring rates were a little on the high side , was also considering either protech or gaz shocks too , OOH me poor heads done in been studying the various threads on the merits of whatever too long .

I have quite few track/road dual purpose cars running 450/350 on nitrons, but as said above i have custom builds .. but you might just get away with those rates on the std valving if you had to.

Hi

Does anyone know what the original factory spring rates were on the 1992 4.3 Griffith with Koni adjustable dampers? They seem stiffer than the later Bilstein/Eibach spring rates.
