Cerbera tyres?

my dad needs some new tyres for the old car, suggestions welcome..

Whats the best tyre for a 4.2 Cerbera? its going to see road and track use so it must be resaonable in the wet too.

Falken 451 get my vote for a good compromise on cost and performance.

Good Year Eagle F1 GSD3 are IMHO the best if you can get the correct size. But, this will spark much debate, Toyo, Dunlop et al will be mentioned.

Me too, I was very impressed with the grip from the Falkens on the rear. I'm fortunate to have a set of SO2s on the front still.

i'm in the same boat on this one, 451's on the rear - dunlop on front. dunlops terrible in the wet

I'm also looking into some new tyres, been using track day specials all year round, but i'm splashing out now & going for a 'winter road tyre & summer track day special' combo!

The Falken seems to be well regarded, but being a Stella drinker, i cant help feeling i should be paying a little bit more. Are they really that good? What would people be using if money were no object?

TT Tim advised Falkens earlier this year and suggested a cheap supplier. I took his advice and find them to be excellent for road or speed championship use. Much grippier than my old Bridgestones were but wearing faster I would say.

Through the years I've used good tyres and cheap tyres on various cars.

As most high-powered cars will eat the tyres reasonably quickly I've fitted cheap ones for use on a car that'll be used as an everyday car i.e. sensible(ish) speeds and not hooned (much).

The cheap ones will, however, fall apart if used for track days or regular high speed driving.

Having said that, I had rubbish tyres on my Skyline for the last year and left them on it for the Furball 5000 this year as I expected them to get wrecked on it. They are still on it and still fine.


As for good ones, it's hard to fault Pirelli P-Zero (if they are still available).

I had them a few times and was always happy with them.


But that's just my two-pence worth .......

Bit of a blanket statement that, and one that you can't substantiate.

I use Falkens (cheap) tyres because I've been sprinting and on a few track days this year, and I didn't want to be too precious about my tyres and they have behaved very well, and after a full 8 rounds there's still plenty of tread left on them. Even when I'm doing things like this to them...



Have you seen MadMark's thread about GY Eagles F1s delaminating?

You cannot say because tyres are cheaper than other they are worse!

I was going on what happened to me in the past.

I had lumps of rubber fall off the shoulder of cheaper tyres on a track after only a couple of lively laps.

My mate who was with me, and has a lot more track experience than I have, reckoned it was purely down to the tyres.
