Years ago, coach building was big business. Not the construction of big red buses, but the practice of placing unique bodies on the chassis of other manufacturers. These days there are few companies still engaged in that art. On the whole if you want a unique look for your car these days, the only option open to you is bolt on bits in the form of after market body kits.
One company still striving to provide something unique however is Stola. The Italian company has unveiled its latest creation in Geneva and it's quite a beauty. Based on the Boxster, the Stola GTS features a 3.6 litre twin turbocharged engine producing a handy 480bhp.
The more obvious changes however are on the outside. The restyling of the Boxster is quite dramatic and gives it an aggressive stance more appropriate for a car with such immense power. Stola claim they've harked back to the 70's with the styling and the most obvious cue there is the very 70's colour scheme.
The uprated engine gives the GTS the capability to reach 180mph and to reach 60mph in just 3.9 seconds. Hauling the 1260kg car to a rest is dealt with by uprated brakes - 332mm Brembos at the front and 328mm at the rear. Stola have done the decent thing and uprated the suspension in keeping with the rest of the performance enhancements.
Just three cars are expected to be built, each simply badged as 'Stola GTS'.
