Can anyone tell me if the Aeon GT3 kit is available in the US? I have tried emailing the company but never heard back (not a good sign). I think this is one of the best kits available today and would love to eventually build one. Thanks

I know nothing about this company.

However there are many small companies that are not IT aware and only use email as a last resort. They may get 100s of emails every day from dreamers etc. So if your serious enquiry has been lost in the morass of rubbish, dont take it as an indication of a kit car company's ability to produce engineerig product.

I filled out a contact form on their site a while back, still heard nothing, so you are not getting special treatment, just the same they offer all prospective customers.

I'm building an Aeon GT3 at this moment in time (http://aeon.tribbeck.com/ ), and have also set up the owners club (www.aeonownersclub.com/ ).

I know that they're not the most computer-savvy people in the world, and their workshop does not have ADSL. They've been talking about updating their web site for the past year, but haven't got around to doing it yet.

THE best way to contact them is via the 'phone (01622 833037) - John's a very nice chap who knows his stuff (as long as it's nothing to do with computers!)

As to the availability in the US, I'm pretty sure they don't have any distributors there at this moment in time, but there's nothing stopping having one shipped out there (although I have no idea about the price of that). ISTR at Brands Hatch last year, a Canadian bloke was interested in getting one, but I don't know what became of that.

Okay, I've just spoken to John.

mern1: He got your email yesterday, but wasn't in so he'll be answering it today.

Fer: He doesn't recall seeing anything, but it's possible it accidentally got deleted.

He also suggested that phone is best

Thank you! I got a reply from John today. He told me there is no dealer in the US but they could deal with me directly.

To those that have a Aeon GT3/2:
My main concern with building any kit car is my ability to fit in it. I am 6'3" and have very long legs wich makes it very hard for me to comforably fit in most kit cars. How is the legroom in the GT3 and in the GT2? Is anyone else near my height that has driven/owned one and can advise? Does the GT2 have more legroom than the GT3 because it looks like the driver seat is 4-6 inches farther forward than the rear wall in the GT3 to make room for the 2 other seats. Thanks

RazMan's building a GT2 (I would've expected him to pipe up by now ), but from what I've been doing, there should be a bit more space, although there's some sloping sides around the centre which reduce the effective area.

I would say that I'm 5'11", and I've moved the driver's seat forwards by 3"; I'd like it moved back a tiny bit more than that, but 6'3" could be possible (you'd need to research the seat side of things - you may be able to gain another inch or so with a different seat - plus I'm experimenting with 2" of padding which I may make 1".

Thanks Tribbles. I have dropped you a mail.

Looking at the site, the Blaze could be an interesting project, any idea if they are around yet, or if anyone has built one?

ETA but then again, if the GT3 comes with a full screen (like your one) then perhaps that might be a better thought.

BTW, is there any form of storage on the car?

I have a huge favor to ask. When you get a chance could you measure the distance from the pedals to the iside of the seat (where your butt sits)? This would help quantify the avaiable legroom so I could determine if I would be able to comfortably fit. I'm in no hurry to know so please do this at your convinience if you could. I really appreciate it. Thanks

The Blaze is the old Genesis kit car; Aeon bought the molds and tweaked them, and the GT3 chassis to fit. I think there are 7 Genesisses (Genii? ) around, and 1 Blaze (it hasn't really been pushed that much yet). I believe the next demonstrator they're building (after finishing a couple of customer's cars) will be a Blaze.

There are three different GT3 models (although only two are shown in their site). Mine is the third, which is a Spider with a screen. I decided that this would be the best combination, but since it's the first one, there were some teething problems getting it to fit (mainly the rear engine braces and the roll bar). However, they should know what to do now.

The other two are the Spider (silver one), and the Coupe (purple). There are now full doors available for the Coupe as well.

Oh, and RazMan designed a neat front end that uses new Mini headlamps which is easier than the original demonstrator lamps. He put some pictures here a few weeks ago - look for the blue car in www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=305808&f=30&h=0&p=2 - it's the second post down on that page.

There's some space down the sides that could be used as a small amount of storage; I won't be using it as such, and if you're doing a GT2 this space can be used for a petrol tank instead. There's also a bit of space behind the driver's seat (or there is in mine).

Apart from that, probably similar storage space to a Westfield...

Well, I was doing some work on it this evening so the covers were still off (in fact, I was looking at the passenger seat to see how comfortable it is).

The distance from the brake pedal in it's upmost position to the base of the seat (with the padding remove) is 3'2". There's another 3" of travel that the seat moves back, and if you didn't have the gas tank in that position, you'd gain another 6". However, you'd be building a GT2 instead of a GT3.

In fact, I've moved the seat 3" forwards to give the passengers room, which means if you did move it back the 3", the passengers would be quite cramped.

Hi Guys - I must have been dozing when this thread started up!

The GT2 was my choice because I felt that the passengers were a little cramped and I have got a six foot wife (I am 6'2" ) Legroom & headroom was quite a challenge until I discovered that Ultima seats were perfect for the job, giving the right amount of 'layback' but I still had to drop the seat pan 50mm to get enough headroom (hard top version). The end result is very cosy but comfortable. I believe the 3 seater has better legroom and headroom for the driver but at the expense of the passengers comfort as I previously mentioned.

Regarding emailing John - it is far better to phone him direct as, by his own admission, he still needs to catch up with the technology What he doesn't know about setting these cars up isn't worth knowing and he will talk for hours about your requirements if you let him

As for storage ....... well there isn't any in my car. I have used the side pods for twin fuel tanks and speaker housings (mine is a road car so I need my comforts) I have routed all my services through a central tunnel to simplify things. I guess with a little thought the side pods could be used as storage to some degree. I have a couple of small boxed areas behind the seats which can house a small toolkit along with the battery and electric water pump controller. In my case I also have a couple of small sub woofers too.

As I am the only GT2 builder so far I can safely say that I can help with any questions in this area so don't be afraid to ask. As Tribbles mentioned, I redesigned the front section which looks better with the Coupe version imho but I then went mad and redesigned the mid and rear sections too so my car is totally different to the original design. Aeon have however been very supportive of my departure from their original design and I told them I might want to make a few changes along the way when I ordered the bodywork. I am hoping to have some completed pictures later this month so check out the AOC for more info.

My car goes for a mapping session next week (yay!) and then hopefully painting the week after that ...... then SVA!
