downloading with windows media

for some reason my computer has stopped the ability to play windows media files on line, eg the bbc website type files. instead it comes up with the error message:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. If the file is located on the Internet, connect to the Internet. If the file is located a removable storage card, insert the storage card.

I am on broadband so there is no issue with connection. any ideas what i can do to get it working again?

Weird. Have you installed anything recently or indeed uninstalled something?
Personally I'd try reinstalling WMP or upgrading to the latest stable version if you haven't already.
