Received quite a shock today at the residual price of my 1 year old CLS 500eek. "£20,000 loss for 5,500 milesmad" Wouldn't be so bad but it's one of the best Merc's I've ever had.

So if anyones interested in picking themselves up a bargain get in contact.

Gutted

But thats very good news for us who can't afford a CLS at current prices, give it a year and I will be able to do you a straight swap for my 3 series

I would have thought the CLS would hold value reasonably well (as best can be expected of a fairly expensive petrol car) - they're surely more desirable than comparable E-classes (or even S-classes?).

But then that is dealer trade in value right..?

Yes, trade value not getting another Merc as I'm picking up the new Range rover Sport V8 diesel next month so just after the cash.

Thought someone might of jumped at the chance of a bargin?

So with extras probably about £60K new and now about £40K as part-ex?, if so unfortunatly sounds about right. Say it ends up on the Merc forecourt eventually for about £46K, sells at £44K which leaves depreciation on it of about £1300 a month, not nice but true. When we were buying my wifes CLS I couldn't see where the resale market was for the350/ 500 as the diesel is so bloody good, just like a torquey petrol. If you've got a bit of time before picking up the Range rover stick it in the classifieds here and you might be pleasantly surprised. Have sold 3 cars via here (HSV,Noble and Voyager) and all to the first looker. Good luck!

Yes with the spec it comes in at the sixy mark so would happily sell it privately for forty rather than to a dealer so someone could pick up a bargain.

Seems the thinking now is to get these kind of vehicles (if buying privately) either on a personal lease or a PCP.
Reading the MB forums, even fairly standard E-Class's, run over 3 yrs/36K miles, seem to suffer losses that would have made a PCP a better bet from the outset.

Maybe the lack of flexibility wouldn't suit, but it's always worth getting a quote as it should give you a pretty good idea of how much of a hit you're going to have to take.

Its shocking but true, only the 320cdi is loved amongst the dealers. Loads of 500 unsold as the 350 engine is only 20hp shy (of the old 5.0). Not much real performance difference once you take the extra weight into account.
Now if you had of known you could have taken out 'Return to Invoice Gap insurance', took the brake off, rolled it off a cliffyou would have got all of your £60K back.......hind-sight and a dodgy mind are a wonderful thing.

Just did a "drive the deal" quote on a CLS500 and CLS320CDI with no options on them. They are offering £7k off the CLS500 and £3k off the CLS320CDI. Wow!

Where are you anyway? Profile says Germany...is this a LHD CLS500? If not, may be interested in talking if you still have the vehicle...

No car was fully loaded- RHD UK spec vehicle. Notice I said was, as the car went to a dealer for £38,500 so if you were after a bargain you left it to late.

There are a few CLS350's on the mb approved used web site at sub 35k and several CLS500's at sub £37k on the same system

The ass has tully dropped out of these over the last 12 months.

I cant decide though if its worth buying one over say a 335i Sport Saloon, which is going to go and handle better

Heard you can get £4k off the 335i already...

Must say the CLS is what I would like next time... but would be a diesel and want one a couple of years old, fed up loosing toooo much money on new cars.

go to www.drivethedeal.co.uk they cetrainly took over £3k off the car I spec'd with them online. Heard you can get better though..

www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?p=2&f=72&t=317730&h=0

it mentions a couple of places with big discounts... though, should qualify it by saying I've heard it is on the Saloon, not coupe.
