De-cats fitted ........ what a noise

I had my exhaust off tonight as one of the welds on the braces on the stainless pipes had cracked and I wanted to weld it.

While I was ripping it to bits and had the tools out I decided to fit the de-cat pipes.

I put the lot back together and started the car up.

I knew it would be louder but I must admit I wasn't prepared for how much louder it is.

I'm sure I'll get used to it but I'm not sure about the neighbours though.


Still, I'm glad I fitted them as I had a look at the cats once I took them off and the honeycomb in one is starting to break up.

They'll do fine for the NCT (our version of the MOT) and the de-cat pipes will be on the rest of the time.


How do you lot manage with the noise of de-cats and stainless exhausts?

Do you get much grief off neighbours and from the law?

I love the sound of my decat with sports pipes. The exhaust makes it that little bit easier to set off car alarms. I've never had any probs with i think they expect a TVR to be somewhat loud. In fact i usually make a point of blipping the throttle a little as i pass the local station
As for the neighbours, I try to be tactful if its an ungodly hour, but I've never had any complaints.

I have decat and sports exhaust, not good for next door, who i share the drive with, as they have a newborn. They have never complained though.

Any police i have come into contact with (in petrol stations etc) have been nothing but complimentary, never a hint of an issue!

Noise is additctive - especially as it goes right through the rev range!!

JJ, de-cat at last eh... It is an addictive noise combo as the banshee comes alive above 3k rpm. As for my neighbours they are ok about it as most of them are stoodents and I was here first Just to make sure there's no complaints though I stuck straight thru sports pipes onto the mini as well so they know any complaints and the mini will just get louder......

i've just had mine done, IRELAND have you re-mapped as it will be lean
as for the noise its excellent i can't wait to go out in it, and it flames out aswell
it must have looked good coming home on the M1 twin flames and all loverly

I got the pipes off Jules in TCS and, as they are straight pipes and not linked, he said it doesn't need to be re-mapped.

If so you should have got your chip through .. I thought vicky had spoken to you about it?

You only need fit the chip if you exoerience a flat spot at about 1700rpm. The extra airflow is small enough to not need remapping at teh top end (ie the mixture is still safe) but they create airflow *humps* further down teh rpm range which are more pronounced on some cars than others, so it may be that your car can benefit from the extra fuelling, if you can't tell any flatspots leave the std chip in there.

Done mine about 6 weeks ago with the linked de-cats, sound great. If you would like to take your Cerb out for a propper spin there is a track day at Kirkistown on Sat and it would be nice to see you if possible. The new motorway between North and South cuts the travel time down a lot.

I know about the track day but I can't make it this weekend.
