As the title says really. I think I munched my discs at my last trackday, but I'm not if the pads are gone as well. I'm hoping they are ok, do I have to replace the pads as well as the discs or is this just good practice?

I've uprated the pads, but not the discs, I'm concerned that if I replaced the standard discs with the same I will have to replace them again before the pads are finished, which seems a waste of money to me...

Normally pads go before the disks, that's the point of the things. You don't say what you've done to your disks to make them need replacing. If you're regularly doing track days then perhaps you need to look at your set up and buy hard core disks, but the normal solution would be to buy pads that can cope with the extra heat.

To answer the first part of the question, yes you'll need new pads or you'll risk scoring your new disks.

I am using EPC Red Stuff on standard discs, and I think I fried my discs on a track day at Donington. Towards the end of the day under hard breaking there was heavy vibration from the front of the car.

Now for normal road use the initial bite isn't there and the brakes feel a lot weaker then they used to.

I'm guessing my discs have gone, but I also guess I could have fried the pads as well, it was the 2nd track day they had been through...

Sorry if this involves egg sucking, but have you checked your fluid levels? Sounds a bit like you've boiled some fluid off...

Not yet, I've been using Dot5.1 so I'm assuming that I've not boiled it off. But I will have a look when I get a mo, could this be a cause for the additional travel in the pedal?

I had a bad exprience with EBC red stuff. Did a track day at Brands GP circuit and had no brakes when I left, the pads hadn't worn much but changing the pads fixed it. The red stuff pads that came out although not very worn were full of cracks and had started to crumble.

Red stuff are not recommended for hard track use, try the Yellows, much better for the track.

Same with the ones I've just taken off my car. I think next time I'm going to fit some Ferredo DS2500, I've heard much better things about those

Pretty sure THE setup for track work on a gti6/Rallye is DS2500 pads... (guess thats the car your running)

There is a picture of an owner over on the Gti6 forums with his front discs glowing visibly in photographs from a track day, and he drove off home at the end of the day with them still working! DS2500's and Brembo discs I think...
Also seems some users there (track people) are using the same pads with different sets of discs, and just using the cheaper "OEM" Brembo discs from GSF as almost disposable items One person on their 4th set of discs with the DS2500's still going strong

Just remember to bed them in using the method described quite well at StopTech website, which has done wonders for the last 3 sets of Gti6 setup brakes and OEM gear I've used...

I'm pretty sure that you are right, and I will continue to find out the hard way!! I couldn't get hold of a set of DS2500's in time to get them bedded in with the new disks for Donington on Sunday. I'll get some once I've fried this set of Red Stuff...

For road use you want Green stuff, Phone EBC and speak to Bob Sketchley, for what it costs I'd replace the pads, but they would wear down to the shape of the disc before the disc wored to the shape of the pads!
