Hi there, does anyone know when the tappets really need to be adjusted apart from the dealer telling you? Are there any signs that we can look out for? Just dropped my car off this morning for the 24k service and they said that they will need adjusting before they even start. Also, how do we know they have been adjusted? Any thoughts? Danny. Dan

Tappet adjust is part of the service on a cerbie ( 4.2 & 4.5 only )so it shouldn't matter coz they have to do it anyway. Is that what you mean? Are they trying to charge you for both ? Edited by RobM on Monday 1st October 18:51

They said that the tappets adjustment is in addition to the £560 for the £24k service (another £250)... Dan

Like i say, i was told its part of the service. Except for the speed6, in which tapped adjust is extra. This is what the dealer ( kings tvr ) told me ?? Maybe they think its a sp6 ?? Or maybe they're trying to scam you ?? or maybe my local dealer was blagging cause he wanted to shift a cerbie ??

Maybe you are right about your dealer trying to shift you a Cerbie... Just got the car back this morning, 3 out of 8 tappets require adjusting, that was 3.5 hours @ £49.50 per hour plus Vat.......my wallet was near enough a grand lighter when I walked out :0( Dan

I am sure that my recent service schedule shows tappet adjustment for Cerbies but it may be every other 6000 miles. I'll have a look tonight tonight

it is every 12k that tappets need to be checked, if they need adjusting that is extra.... also after another look at the bill, they charged me £8.50 per day to use the courtesey car, a little sh!ty Justy....what a cheek after charging me over 900 big ones.... Dan

I have a standard TVR service schedule (colour puple) from my Chim service last month. As written on the schedule, item 34 is: "Check Adjust Tappets (Cerbera & Tuscan) and adjust timing chain tension if noisey (speed 6 only)" This is scheduled on majors, i.e. every 12k. I read that as adjust tappets on all cerbies and tuscans. Adjust timing chain tension on speed 6's I got a free curtesy car with my service which was a major, cost £798 inc vat and included new pads on the front, diagnosis and repair of fuse fault and MOT - still pricey though, I think! Mecca, Did they give you the schedule for reference?? If they did, do you think you can fax it/email it to me? Which dealer did you go with? Cheers, Danny Dan

My Cerby 4.5 has gone into the dealership this morning for its 24k service. This includes the tappet work at around £450.

Mickey, Have you actually paid for the service yet? Who is your dealer? It is a lot less than what I have paid. Please let me know! Danny. Dan

Not yet, it is at Henley. Spoke to a guy who used to work at TVR this afternoon and said that it is worth getting done properly. He reckons that if it isn't done right, it will cost more in the long run. These guys have always looked after me in the past, but I am always interested in an alternative...
