Eventually found the small but constant use of coolant on my wedge since it's engine rebuild... Not good, but when the hard seats were fitted in the head, a water jacket has been broken into! I know we shouldn't push our own adverts but it is a wanted:-

Do any of you fellow wedgers bow have a pair of heads gathering dust? I'm desperate to get back on the road.

Regards,

Chris.

Funny you said that matey because I've an engine I don't need in the workshop. Thing is, I know nothing about the pushrod v6's so don't know what it is. The heads are off it and it's all free to the scrapman or a good home.

Chris, I checked my heads earlier today. They are from a 2.9 and look like the ones in the above link. There aren't any D or E markings, sorry.

I'm looking for a pair, when the hard valve seats have fitted to the heads a water jacket has been broken into on two of the valve seats, my theory is that if two have broken through the others will be very thin in the same area, and could well be waiting fail.

I'm reluctant to have my heads welded up, as although I am struggling to find some with hard seats fitted, as I believe these were manufactured from a different csting, it is now apparent I can get hold of heads without hard valve seats fairly easily.

For my worry about welding have a look at these beautiful examples http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2-8-Cologne-Bur

And he has a reserve of 300 pounds! I have a pair of big valve heads(inlet and exhaust)with hard valve seats, and wire ringed, not welded up, and I know their real worth!

Chris.

Hi Chris,
there is a complete engine from a 93 ford scorpio if you want it. Or we could get the heads removed for you. We're in Leeds if you want to collect. Don't know the price yet but it'll be less than £100.

Hi tallbloke,

Thanks for the offer, but a 1993 scorpio if a V6 will be a 2.9 engine which has the heads with three exhaust ports. So no use to me I'm afraid, but thanks again anyway.

Chris.

Also some cortinas had these 2.8 engines. So perhaps a scrapyard has one (cortina rusted away, engine still intact). For the rest my best bet would be on finding a rusted granada 2.8.

Or engine transplant? Seems that 2.9 availability is ok. Turbo charge that. Sorry for opening a can of worms (if that would be the case).

Hi All

Just a quick note, if the car is runing with a v6 2.8 it will be a cologne engine, they have 2 inlet ports and 3 exhaust ports, the 2.9 is also the same in designe.
The 3l is an essex engine, they have 3 inlet and exhaust ports, they have much better breathing properties.
I would of thought the heads off a 2.9 would have been compatible.

There seems to be a certain degree of confusion going on here.

The engine in my car is a 2.8 cologne engine, this has three inlet ports and two exhaust ports per head. The 2.9 cologne engine has three inlet ports and three three exhaust ports. The heads are not interchangable, and I have no wish to basterdize an original factory prototype which in my view is quite an important wedge. To the best of my knowlege the 2.8 cologne engine was never fitted in Cortina's, it was the 2.3 cologne which has many differences in the engine the most significant being much smaller valves (the early 2.3 even more so)

The engine was fitted in Capri's, Granada's (earlier ones before they became 2.9), Sierra XR4i's, XR4x4's (earlier ones before they became 2.9) and a hand full of Transit's. I have bid on two full engines on flea bay but they have now both been removed by the sellers prior to the auction ending! Flea bay at it's most annoying!
