Does anyone know of any programs that can turn a Pocket PC (MDA Vario) into a television remote control? Freeware, shareware, trial versions or freely-downloadable versions preferred, but any would be considered.

Thanks in advance.

There isnt one.

Due to the fact that the Vario doesnt have a CF slot.

If it has irDa it will work over a very short distance but not from the other side of the room, rendering it somewhat pointless.

Why does it need a Compact Flash slot?

The irDa manages to transfer pics and music files to and from my laptop, even when it's at the other side of the room.

Yes but thats because IRDa is present in both the laptop and the phone. AV equipment doesnt use IRDa as an infrared standard.

PDA's with a CF slot can you use a card that has an LED IR emitter built into it which gets over the IRDa problem.

When I had my iPaq you could get a program which would do this. Will have a look to see what it was called, worked a treat.

Found it
What about these?

The two big ones are UltraMote and RemoteControl II

They both highly recommend the use of a CF based IR LED.

Again recommends the use of the CF IR extender.

IRDa will work but the range will be woefully short.

Might download one and give it a try, but I'll bear in mind what you've said and expect dogpoo results.

I don't even 'need' the utility itself, it all stems from a remark I made to my girlfriend about wishing I could turn Eastenders off with my Vario

If you're going to download one the only one that supports the vario is the Noviimedia

My RX3715 has an app on it called Nevo.

Its OK, as Plotty said the range is cack, and it won't control my Sky box.

So.... good as a Pocket PC, cack as a remote.

Same as the man above me. My iPaq Rx3715 came with Nevo but the iPaq was released with media in mind.

It can be programed to control, tv's, hifi's, VCR's, DVDRW/HDD recorders, media centre computers etc...

Works from anywhere around room but I'm not sure if it'll work on any ipaq as the people above have said about CF card slots to be used.

Give it look up. Nevo.com or something....
